Under the supervision of the Administrative Manager, Receptionists are responsible for greeting visitors and delivering exceptional customer service assistance. This entails answering calls and fielding them accordingly, addressing visitor questions and needs, and providing an overall welcoming environment and other clerical duties The Receptionist is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the Salvation Army Meighen Health Centre’s core values, ensure resident safety, and demonstrate customer service excellence while responsible for planning, implementation and evaluation of programs and services provided to the residents.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
  • Previous experience in a long-term care or similar setting an asset
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:
  • Effective computer skills with ability to utilize MS Office suite, experience with scheduling and resident record programs an asset
  • Deal tactfully and courteously with residents, resident’s families, visitors, and staff in an empathetic and positive manner
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity, sound judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated commitment to treating others with respect and dignity
  • Ability to organize work and meet deadlines
  • Ability to operate related equipment
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Creates a Welcoming environment by greeting guests, answering phone calls, and directing visitors
  • Accepts complaints or issues and passes them on to the appropriate parties
  • Receives and transfers incoming calls, pages staff members or other parties as required or transmits messages
  • Provides standard information on facility and Residents, in accordance with facility policies and procedures
  • Clerical duties to include routine letters, memoranda, reports, forms, faxing & photocopying etc., checks typing for accuracy, sorts and prioritizes typing assignments, assists with bulletins
  • Manage inventory of supplies and follows process for replenishing and requests
  • Sorts, records, notifies, and distributes incoming mail, and processes outgoing mail
  • Monitors and logs visitor, contractor, and volunteer access cards, as well as booking of meeting rooms
  • Assists with scheduling when necessary
  • Receives residents’ clothing for labeling and prepares labels for laundry staff
  • Answers intercom system for receiving door, front door, and other access doors
  • Books Wheel Trans wheelchair transport and taxis as requested by residents
  • Ensure the reception office area is kept neat, tidy, and organized
  • Follows confidentiality and privacy principles in the reception area
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • This is a temporary full time position with an anticipated end date of November 2025 based on 70 hours biweekly
Shifts: Monday to Friday 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • This role is in a seniors congregate setting and may be subject to working in outbreak (COVID, flu, etc.) conditions
  • May work with residents who are physically or cognitively impaired
  • Interacts with families, staff, and volunteers
