Position Overview

The Total Rewards Team wihtin Human Resources is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Analyst, Human Resources.

This position will report to the Manager, Total Rewards and will work very closely with the designated Finance Partner to provide analytical and transactional support for the central benefits department. This position will also work closely with other members of the Total Rewards team, including cross functional teamwork and communication.

The Analyst, Human Resources will monitor transactions, reconcile the central benefits department and provide financial analysis and ad hoc reporting to support the effectiveness of benefits programs. Working with the Finance Partner, the Analyst, Total Rewards will be required to support budget development, offset rate recommendations, and monitor, approve, reconcile, and correct a variety of transactions. This position will make recommendations regarding development of policies, processes, and systems that would add value to the Central Benefits Account.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Validates and processes various expense charges.
  • Monitor transactions in the central benefits department, reconciling charges and invoices to ensure correct billing.
  • Collaborates with finance on budgeting, preparation of monthly variance forecasts, and other financial analysis.
  • Provide analytical support n evaluation the effectiveness of benefits programs.
  • Analyze potential impacts to benefit allocation rates for proposed changes to employee/employer group benefits and other benefit program changes.
  • Provides decision support through the identification, articulation, and communication of potential risks.
  • Continuously evaluate financial processes and procedures, making recommendations for improvements and implement university processes and policy changes where necessary.
  • Act as a contact for all finance and accounting related issues related to the central benefits account and follow up with key stakeholders as required.
  • Reconciles benefit premium charges, collaborating with payroll as required.
  • Responds to and resolves complex process issues, engaging the Finance Partner as required.
  • Compile and perform analysis for preparation of annual budget.
  • In conjunction with the Finance Partner, develop and maintain metrics or key performance indicators for regular reporting.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance; escalate non-adherence to university policies when appropriate to ensure resolution.
  • Supports the administration of the tuition support and relocation programs.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • University degree in business or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of recent, related experience; Human Resources and/or Finance experience preferred.
  • Designation in accounting or HR would be considered an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Ability to research, collect and interpret data to develop effective and meaningful programs, including strategic thinking in contributing to the design of operational changes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in budgeting and financial analysis.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple competing priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and interpersonal skills, including displaying sound judgment, collaboration, tact and diplomacy in interactions with various internal and external stakeholders.
  • A positive attitude and a demonstrated ability to be a collaborative team member with a service delivery focus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Proficiency in working with large integrated enterprise resource planning systems, data warehousing and business intelligence tools, and spreadsheets.
  • Experience with Human Resources Information Systems (e.g., PeopleSoft) an asset.
  • Ability to write and effectively deliver both written and verbal communications.
