Building Maintenance

The Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre Inc. is currently seeking a Full-Time Building Maintenance

Worker to join our team!

The Maintenance Worker will assist in the day-to-day maintenance of the approximately 312,000

square foot building which includes pools, gymnasiums, indoor running track and state-of-the-art

facilities for high performance training and sports medicine. They will be required to perform

preventive maintenance and corrective repair of building elements and equipment, both indoors

and outdoors. Working under limited supervision, the Maintenance Worker performs minor

carpentry, minor plumbing, minor electrical, painting, drywalling, technical cleaning, roofing,

window washing, pothole filling, grass cutting, snow removal and weeding, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Basic carpentry, minor plumbing, minor electrical work;
  • Basic painting, drywall, and tiling;
  • Loading dock activities for shipping and receiving, including use of forklift and electric pump

truck;

  • High cleaning (working from a height) and technical cleaning;
  • Garbage compaction, cardboard compaction and recycling management;
  • Promptly responds to building emergencies (e.g. fire evacuations, etc.);
  • Performs maintenance to ensure the building provides a world-class experience for

customers;

  • Maintains outdoor property with lawn cutting, weeding, mulching, fertilizing, green roof

maintenance, varnishing outdoor benches, repairing parking equipment, etc.

  • Repairs and maintains sporting equipment;
  • Conducts facility and equipment inspections and inventories;
  • Assists Building Operators with mechanical operations which may include assisting with air

handling unit filter changes, swimming pool backwashes, swimming pool disinfection, etc;

  • Assists Building Operator with testing and maintaining all building fire and life safety systems;
  • Assists contractors as required and performs other related work as assigned; and
  • Ensures compliance with health and safety legislation, provincial regulations for swimming

pool operations, and other legislative standards.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Must have completed secondary school;
  • Must have current Standard First Aid certification;
  • Must be comfortable working at heights on ladders and lifting devices;
  • Must be able to communicate well in English, both verbally and reading/writing;
  • Assets (but not required): Certified Pool Operator, Building Environmental Systems certificate

(or equivalent), certified SCUBA diver.

What we need from you:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant maintenance experience;
  • Facility maintenance experience specific to an athletic complex is an asset (but not required);
  • Experience in carpentry, minor electrical work, window washing, minor plumbing, landscape

maintenance, and other maintenance work are all assets;

  • Swimming skills and rock-climbing skills are assets (but not required).

Skills and Other

  • Very familiar with maintenance tools and power tools is essential;
  • An ability to read and perform tasks outlined in technical manuals and publications;
  • Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to deal courteously with the public;
  • Must be physically capable of performing required duties;
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and to communicate effectively in English, verbally and

in writing with staff, contractors, trades people, etc.;

  • Basic proficiency with computer applications such as email, Windows, MS Word and MS

Excel;

  • Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
  • AutoCAD skills are an asset (but not required);
  • Able to work 12-hour shifts: 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am including weekends and holidays
  • Able to work additional hours beyond regular schedule when necessary.

The successful candidate will receive a competitive compensation package. The position will

start as soon as possible. Three professional references will be required, and the successful

candidate will be required to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check.
