EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY – Custodian - Part Time/Casual
Hours may vary between 5:30 am to 12:30 am
Depending on Availability and Organizational Needs
Wage Range - $19.90 - $22.40


The custodian performs a variety of general and specific duties in the provision of custodial, and security
services for all facilities owned by the Town of Sylvan Lake. The position exercises judgment and
initiative while demonstrates strong customer service.

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:


1. Perform quality janitorial work throughout the facility including:

o Following all Health and Safety guidelines, safe work practices and safety data sheets
o Regular checks and maintenance of public washroom cleanliness, paper replacements,

urinals, toilets, sinks
o Clean up as required during the shift of all areas of the facility
o Ensuring the facility is clean and organized at the conclusion of the shift for next

shift/day activities
o Emptying all garbage
o Ensuring that all entrances are kept clean and safe of all debris and snow
o Maintain appropriate check lists and records with respect to duties, tasks rental groups

and patrons including washroom check lists and other Janitorial check lists (e.g. lobby,
meeting rooms, offices, arena, track), rental group / patron attendance and safety

2. Perform safety and security for the facilities including:
o Attendance at the specified facilities to unlock as scheduled
o Regular walk abouts to ensure safe use of the premises and equipment by all facility

patrons
o Lock the facilities as required which includes doing a final security check of all areas

used by each individual rental
o Arm security alarm panel(s) as required

3 Provide excellent customer service through:
o Assistance to rental groups with the set up and take down of equipment such as tables,

chairs, sports nets and goals, other items as required
o Assistance to the public as required
o Maintenance of effective communication with rental groups and all facility patrons
o Ensuring patrons understand and follow facility rules and regulations




TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 

Grade 12 graduation (or equivalent) 
Commercial/Large scale janitorial/Custodial experience an asset 
A valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License 
First Aid/CPR 
RCMP Based Criminal Record Check 
Must work effectively with limited supervision 
Adaptable and able to communicate positively and effectively with customers, patrons, co-

workers and supervisors 
Successfully resolve on-site rental group and patron complaints 
Ability to lift and move heavy items 
Able to sustain periods of physically demanding work for deep cleaning including kneeling,

crawling etc. 
Willingness and ability to work flexible hours (early mornings, evenings and weekends) 
Must be 18 years of age or older to work licensed events
