About this Opportunity
The School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education, University of Victoria invites applications for a Practicum Coordinator position. The School has two Undergraduate programs, Kinesiology as well as Recreation and Health Education. The Practicum Coordinator position for the Kinesiology Program ensures students have the opportunity to build professional kinesiology competencies through experiential learning through quality practice placements. The Practicum Coordinator develops, negotiates and implements practice placements for Kinesiology students that match the Kinesiology program curriculum learning objectives as well as align with students’ career aspirations in areas including, but not limited to, exercise programming, allied health professional clinical practice, sport science and coaching, sport and health policy as well as related research fields.
The salary range for this position is:
Recruitment range: $73,548- $81,092 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
Performance range: starting salary to max of $95,658 is available through annual performance increases.
Job Summary
Mandate:
The Practicum Coordinator for the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education ensures students in the Kinesiology program have the opportunity to build professional Kinesiology competencies through experiential learning through quality practice placements within the Kinesiology curriculum. The Practicum Coordinator develops, negotiates and implements practice placements for Kinesiology students that match curriculum learning objectives and align with students’ career aspirations.
Objectives:
Facilitates Kinesiology undergraduate practicum experiences that prepares students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to work in clinical, research, or policy areas
Builds and maintains relationships with a network of resource people in various health and educational institutions to provide rich learning environments and opportunities that match curriculum learning objectives and allow students to grow professionally while considering and addressing the needs and expectations of the community partners.
Coordinate and implement quality practice placements for students that align with student’s career aspirations.
Through facilitating appropriate negotiations and written documentation, the practicum coordinator supports the professional and educational relationship between the practicum agency, the university, EPHE and the students.
Job Requirements
This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a master’s degree, Kinesiology preferred, or a graduate degree in a related field plus 5 years of relevant experience.
Active registration as a Practicing Kinesiologist with the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK) or as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP or be eligible for and commit to achieving registration if not currently registered is required.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

Managing practice placements program requests for Kinesiology students.
Application of the Code of Conduct for Practicing Kinesiologists or Clinical Exercise Physiologists to practicum settings.
Knowledge and awareness of trends in Kinesiology education and health care practice environments, and innovative practice education models.
Excellent critical thinking, conflict management, and problem-solving skills.
Experience creating briefing notes, reports, and other documents for various audiences.
Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships.
Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and tailor communication style for different audiences and situations.
Strong ability to develop and maintain productive and collaborative working relationships with all partners and interest groups.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Proven track record achieving cyclical practicum tasks on time and produce deliverables of a high quality, accuracy, and attention to detail each term.
Ability to work across organizations to address competing priorities and adapt workflow fluctuations.
Ability to work effectively with a diverse population and with all levels of university personnel.
Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills.
Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to inspire a team.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn and use new technology and software programs, including experience and knowledge of various database platforms.
Developing reports for tracking critical data for internal needs, other UVic departments, and practice partners in health or educational institutions.
Additional experience in advanced practice education and leadership roles is an asset.
Knowledge of university registration systems, online technologies, and distance education tools systems such as FAST, Banner, Self-Service Banner, Brightspace, etc. is an asset.
Familiarity with UVic programs, policies, procedures, and business systems is an asset.
Experience working within a post-secondary environment in an asset.
