The University of Windsor’s Leddy Library seeks applications for a twelve-month Limited-term Scholarly Communications Librarian position at the rank of Librarian I, commencing as early as July 1, 2024.

The Leddy Library is committed to supporting and transforming the delivery of academic programming and the pursuit of research at the University of Windsor. This includes the delivery of scholarly communication services to support the process in which research and other scholarly works are created, evaluated for quality, disseminated to the scholarly community, and preserved for future use. The Scholarly Communications Librarian reports to the Head of Information Services. Leddy librarians are asked to serve in various capacities based on needs within the library. Librarians at Leddy Library engage in service to the university and the profession, and in research, scholarship, and creative activity in addition to their assigned responsibilities.

As part of a team of librarians in the Information Services Department, the Scholarly Communications Librarian will:

  • provide consultation and education to campus researchers on topics such as open access, bibliometric indicators and metrics literacy, researcher identifiers and profiling systems, and emerging trends in scholarly communications;
  • work collaboratively to identify opportunities and pilot new services to support the evolving scholarly communication needs for campus researchers;
  • support existing publishing services, such as the institutional repository and the library’s open publishing service for journals, books, and conference proceedings;
  • engage in strategic conversations and planning for the library’s institutional repository within a consortial environment;
  • collect and analyze data to evaluate the success of new initiatives, and ongoing services such as the institutional repository and the open publishing service; and
  • deliver campus outreach, advocacy, and education activities related to scholarly communications services.

The successful candidate must have

  • a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree from an American Library Association-accredited program, or an equivalent program;
  • an ability to thrive both independently and collaboratively within an evolving organizational environment, exhibiting a proactive approach to tasks while effectively communicating and coordinating with team members;
  • strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • resourcefulness, innovation, and flexibility in meeting user needs;
  • knowledge of the scholarly publishing system, including issues related to open access;
  • knowledge of bibliometric indicators (including publication counts, citation counts, h-indexes, and journal metrics) and their responsible use in research evaluation;
  • knowledge of researcher identification and profiling systems such as ORCID; and
  • understanding and demonstration of a commitment to the principles of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Decolonization and Indigenization and the ability to work with a diverse student, staff and faculty population.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with scholarly publishing, digital scholarship, open access initiatives, or bibliometrics, and
  • Experience with teaching, presenting, or training.
