Lawson Health Research Institute (Lawson) is the research institute of London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London. As one of Canada’s top ten research institutes, we are committed to furthering scientific knowledge to advance health care around the world.

The ICES Kidney, Dialysis and Transplantation (KDT) Program is currently seeking a motivated Research Assistant (RA) that is experienced in project management to work collaboratively and perform a wide range of tasks including administration, coordination, and general support for health research.

KDT operates out of ICES Western, a satellite site of ICES, that is located within the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario. The Kidney, Dialysis and Transplantation program is one of eight research programs at ICES and supports province-wide research collaboration and networking. The Research Assistant is an employee of LHSC.

Research and Organization responsibilities:

  • Providing administrative support for senior staff and management including scheduling (availability, room bookings, equipment, catering), preparing agendas and required background material, producing and distributing minutes and ensuring follow-up of action items
  • Project management including tracking and monitoring timelines, scope, budget and deliverables and ensuring accurate entry into a project management software
  • Supporting the submission and reporting for grants including project descriptions, coordination of supports letters and CVs, experience with trial budgets considered an asset
  • Supporting the development and completion of study related agreements via institutional contracts and legal departments
  • Maintaining the maintenance of standard templates, formats, checklists and shared research documentation
  • Responding to routine email inquiries
  • Writing scientific literature reviews including summaries
  • Completing project intake forms, amendments, and project specific documents
  • Assist with writing research proposals with support from the project team,
  • Assist/support the development of protocols (dataset creation plans) and manuscripts (preparing tables and figures, double checking entries, completing checklists, formatting)
  • Handling confidential documents,
  • Other duties as it pertains to the role.

Rate of pay: To commensurate with experience

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week

Duration: One year, with potential for renewal


Qualifications

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences, Health or Business Administration or a related field,
  • 2 years of experience working in a support role, preferably research or project management related,
  • Experience with health administrative data, or work on ICES projects is considered an asset
  • Fully proficient in the use of MS Office suite.
  • Strong desire to function in an environment that requires adaptation to changing organizational needs and re-prioritizing workload to accommodate,
  • Functions best in an environment with little oversight and is comfortable asking for support when needed,
  • Superior organizational and time management skills to manage and prioritize workload,
  • Knowledge of the medical and health care system (e.g. health administrative coding) in Canada or Ontario is considered an asset,
  • Strong communication and professional skills and ability to exercise discretion and good judgment
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to take initiative,
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication.
