Overview

The Health Care Operations department of WorkSafeBC is looking for 1 Co-op Student, Payment Services to join our team to assist in the processing of accounts for all health care related expenses associated with claims.

If you are interested in applying your talents and knowledge and gaining valuable experience to support worker health and safety, we want to hear from you. This is a four-month temporary opportunity start in May 2024, with possibility to extend to 8 months.

How you’ll make a difference: You’ll apply what you’ve learned in your post-secondary program to benefit workers and employers across B.C.

Where you’ll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you will work primarily from our Richmond office with some flexibility to work from your home in B.C.

What you'll do

  • Assist in processing health care accounts for services and goods provided to injured workers in accordance with the Workers Compensation Act and WorkSafeBC policies.
  • Determine the validity of health care related charges via validation queues.
  • Streamline workflow processes by gathering data, testing and validating current practices.
  • Prepare a variety of correspondence and communicate with claimants and other related parties when health care benefits are adjudicated.
  • Assist in identifying and correcting accounts incorrectly billed; calculate and process credits on accounts incorrectly paid.

  • Demonstrate a high level of quality and accuracy.
  • Communicate both in writing and verbally, to professionally interact with WorkSafeBC claimants, staff and health care providers.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and an ability to work with limited supervision.

Your background and experience

  • Enrolled in a post-secondary program in accounting or business administration
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office software suite (Excel, Word).
  • Previous co-op or relevant work experience in an office environment preferred.
