Purpose:
Taking instruction from and working with the Manager, Library Operations, this position provides general library services to the public, including, but not limited to circulation services and collections, and shelving and stack maintenance in the Law Library. Duties at the circulation desk include using the Libraries' integrated library system (ILS), answering basic questions regarding library policies and procedures, processing material for resource sharing, and preparing/circulating short-term loans. This position is also responsible for opening and closing library and compiling library usage statistics.
Education:
High School graduation or equivalent.
Experience:
Two years recent related experience in library public service focusing on circulation duty and shelving, in a front line, high volume area answering enquiries, working with online information systems, and receiving and processing requests, preferably within an academic law library context.
Skills:
Keyboarding and data entry skills.
Basic MS Word and MS Excel proficiency.
Experience working with ILS (current Alma/Primo), or similar information system.
Ability to learn new technologies and procedures.
Familiarity with library policies and procedures with ability to understand and apply as necessary.
Proficiency working with email systems (e.g. MS Outlook).
Accuracy and attention to detail essential.
Working independently.
Dealing calmly, courteously and effectively with people.
Good oral communication skills to interact professionally and courteously with library patrons.
Good organizational skills.
Answering inquiries clearly and concisely.
Maintaining confidentiality.
Accuracy in handling of credit/debit transactions.
