This is a full-time term until July 2026, working 75 hours bi-weekly. Temporary Assignments will equally be considered.

About the Branch:

The Sport and Recreation branch is committed to providing leadership and support for the health, wellbeing, and quality of life for Yukoners through sport, physical activity, and recreation. The branch provides core operational and programming funding to the territory’s sport governing bodies, community recreation programs of First Nations and local organizations in the Yukon’s unincorporated communities, Yukon-wide sport and recreation organizations, elite and high-performance athletes.

About The Position:

This position is responsible for establishing meaningful relationships with Yukon First Nations for the development and growth of healthy recreation/sport opportunities for all citizens with a focus on youth. The position is responsible for building collaborative partnerships between Yukon First Nations and their communities with Yukon Sport Governing Bodies, Yukon Special Recreation Groups, and the whole sport and recreation system in Yukon, nationally and internationally.

Essential Qualifications

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the following qualifications. Please note selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Post-secondary education in Sport or Recreation Administration, Sport Management or related field.
  • Experience in developing, planning, and managing projects or programs related to sport & recreation.
  • Significant experience working with First Nations peoples and communities;
  • Experience working with rural or remote communities, underrepresented groups, indigenous groups and/or non-profit organizations.
  • Experience working with funding applications and managing budgets.

Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience will be equally considered.



Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work with volunteers and community organizations/groups in a variety of roles and the ability to develop and strengthen partnerships and stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and supportively within a small dynamic team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Sound research and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of sport and recreation plans and strategies, Yukon sport and recreation sector, its key organizations, structure, and relevant issues and opportunities.
  • Familiar with areas of local governance, including Yukon First Nation Governments and the roles and responsibilities of recreation authorities in incorporated and unincorporated communities.
  • Developing and delivering public presentations, workshops and courses.

Condition(s) of Employment: Valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s licence (or equivalent).

Job Requirement(s): Must be willing and able to travel, work evenings, weekends & on short notice.

A one-year eligibility list will be established from this competition to fill future vacancies for identical positions and may also be used for similar positions within the department.
