I. Position Function:
- Operates cash register using Departmental Cash Handling Procedures while also providing courtesy service to the customers.
II. Job Relationships:
- Supervised and reportable to Retail of Cafe Manager.
- Must be able to count and to effectively communicate with visitors and other hospital staff.
III. Authority:
- Registers sales with customers on all cash and charge sales to obtain payment for items purchased.
IV. A. Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
1.) "Provides superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers, and patients as referenced in the Service Excellence Standards."
- Verifies amount of money in drawer impress which should be $150.00.
- Carries out money and charge transactions with accuracy.
- Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of cafeteria prices and charges correctly.
- Greets customers and employees with courtesy and friendliness.
- Maintains cash register to keep running uninterrupted during peak times.
- Attends all staff meetings and in-services scheduled by supervisors.
- Verifies monies, voids and charge sales with supervisor.
- Closes and secures register when solely responsible for drawer.
- Reports all spills and/or accidents in cafe immediately to a manager.
- Maintains a "Clean As You Go" attitude and sanitary work area.
- Uses proper hand-washing techniques.
- Utilizes and stores cleaning agents properly.
B. Responsibilities/Non-Essential Functions:
- Keeps storage area near register clean and orderly.
- Keeps work area (cash registers, condiment stations) neat, clean and orderly.
- Adheres to all sanitation guidelines to prevent food-borne illnesses.
- Covers, labels and dates food in appropriate containers.
V. Reporting Requirements:
- Notify Manager if $150.00 impress is not correct.
- Notify any Manager of spills or accidents in cafe.
- Report to Manager if cash register is not working properly.
- Report any over rings or refunds to supervisor.
- Notify Manager of any customer complaints or requests.
VI. Accountability:
- Shall be accountable for carrying out money and charge transactions with accuracy.
- Shall be accountable for verifying $150.00 drawer at start of shift.
- Reports all spills or accidents to Manager.
- Reports any problems with the customers or hospital staff.
VII. Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
- High School or GED equivalent.
- Must be able to read and count money.
Minimum Experience:
- Previous experience in cash register and cash handling.
Minimum skills/abilities:
- Must be friendly and courteous to all customers.
- Must be able to operate cash register and to handle cash efficiently.
Certification/Licensure:
- None
Training:
- On going training and in-services required.
Special Qualifications:
- Pleasant and cheerful attitude.
- Previous cash register knowledge.
