A&A Safety, Inc. is an industry leader in traffic safety, ensuring that the public can safely travel on highways and roadways throughout the region by providing materials and services related to traffic control and pavement marking.
The Company is currently looking for qualified individuals to join our team as Grinding/Grooving Operators.
Grinding/Grooving Operators are responsible for the operation and maintenance of a roadway marking removal/grooving system, used in the heavy highway construction industry to facilitate traffic control. This is a specialized truck that uses PCD (polycrystalline diamond) teeth and/or diamond saw blades with a vacuum debris recovery to remove many forms of pavement markings on various road surfaces.
Grinding pavement markings typically takes place to eradicate road stripe markings for traffic pattern changes, for installation of new pavement striping, or for the application of micro surfacing roads. The grinding is performed with PCD (polycrystalline diamond) teeth. The process is to eliminate 95-100% of the existing pavement marking in order to apply new.
Grooved pavement markings are a growing trend in certain applications. A recessed groove is cut in the pavement and the marking material is then placed in the groove with a separate piece of equipment. The groove is performed with PCD teeth and/or diamond cutting saw blades, depending on the type of surface pavement and depth. The pavement marking placed in the groove can be a marking tape product, epoxy, or thermoplastic. One of the main benefits of this process is to prevent damage to the pavement markings caused by snowplows. The groove is cut one inch wider than the marking width, so it allows water from the groove to run away from the marking. We have invested in this very specialized equipment to give the grooved option for any pavement markings.
This is a skilled position that requires mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate a complex piece of heavy machinery. Additional skill sets needed to be successful in this role include effective communication skills on projects with contractors, ODOT personnel, and other employees. This position is often unsupervised and being a self-starter with a good work ethic is a must.
The equipment used in these processes is highly sophisticated. We are looking for someone who is trustworthy, hardworking, able to adapt and conquer. This roll will be well suited for someone who will treat this equipment as their own. This roll has a heavy workload and is extremely mechanically intensive. This industry is newer and growing. We are searching for a dedicated individual to take this role head on and grow with the company, the equipment, and become a professional in this specific field of work.
Other important duties will include equipment maintenance, as needed, preparing, and loading trucks, flagging and setting/removing lane closures.
