Abode, one of the largest and effective nonprofits working to end homelessness in the Bay Area, is seeking a Co-Occurring Specialist for our programs in Alameda County.
About The Role: The Co-Occurring Specialist delivers mental health counseling services to clients experiencing co-occurring disorders across the program in collaboration with the ACT team. This position will provide guidance as the program lead, in helping participants access in and outpatient substance abuse treatment when needed. The Co-Occurring Specialist will cross train other team members in recovery principles, models, and interventions.

How You Make An Impact:
- Develop and facilitate psychoeducational groups that support wellness and recovery.
- Educate clients regarding the negative physical and psychological effects of drugs/alcohol.
- Encourage harm-reduction techniques for clients actively engaging in substance use.
- Ability to effectively intervene in crisis situations using de-escalation techniques.
- Determine the client’s current level of substance use, help client in the development of treatment goals, discuss treatment options, and provide referrals.
- Attend case conference meetings. Assist in coaching staff and in ongoing educational efforts.
- Develop professional relationships with other agencies that provide drug/alcohol treatment.
- Enter all data on time and correctly to support program evaluation and outcomes tracking.
- Ensure proper and timely documentation of services including written case notes using the BIRP formats and billing services to Medi-Cal.
- Provide 24-hour on-call crisis intervention coverage on a rotating basis.
- Assist the Greater HOPE Program Manager, Clinical Supervisor, and other staff as needed.
- Assist the Greater HOPE Program Manager as needed.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends and evenings. Provide 24-hour on-call crisis intervention coverage on a rotating basis.
- Other duties as assigned.
How You Meet Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED).
- Certified drug and alcohol counselor I or ll (CAADE, CAADAC, FACT), required.
- 2 years of experience providing substance recovery services required.
- 2 years of field experience working with people with serious mental illness, individuals, co-occurring disorders and complex health issues and/or the chronically homeless population.
- Use of personal vehicle and proof of valid California Driver's License and current auto insurance, along with a clean DMV record, is required.
