Job Description Communications Director
This person must be a big-picture conceptualizer, motivator, leader, coach, and motivator. The Communications Director will assist in amplifying The Abyssinian Baptist Church of New York City's mission of winning more souls for Christ. He/she will report to the pastor and oversee all internal and external communications. All creative, digital, production, and communication staff will also report to this person.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Supports creative leadership, website social media management, and overall branding of the Abyssinian Baptist Church.
- Serves as the primary lead for conceptualizing, creating, implementing, maintaining, and coordinating all digital content
- Oversees the communications budget
- Overseas email and text communication systems
- Work with church and Ministry leaders to define, develop and effectively communicate messages to church-wide and specific audiences
- Coordinates website content and updates in collaboration with pastor staff and external vendors
- Develop and execute social media strategy, including developing content scheduling content releases
- Analyzes social media trends and matrixes, such as new users' growth, likes, shares, and trends, every week.
- Maintains an editorial calendar with posts drafts and scheduled for future publication
- Oversees production worship service media design and provides upgrade guidance
Qualifications:
- Strong copywriting and editing skills. Communicate clearly and effectively using written words
- Must have proven leadership abilities
- Ecclesiastical work experience or training is helpful but not required
- Professional public relations experience is preferred
- Possess proven interpersonal motivational skills
- Must be very comfortable working with computers and learning new software technology as needed
