What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Start Teacher position at ACHR?

The Alabama Council on Human Relations seeks applicants for Head Start Teachers and Assistant Teachers who will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing the classroom environment, activities, and adult/child interaction that create an appropriate, positive atmosphere for preschool development. Also responsible for:

  • Active supervision of children at all times children are present.
  • Safety of children in the classroom, on the playground, and during transitions in and out of the classroom.
  • Maintain smooth functioning of the classroom, center, and program by working with the Teacher or Teacher Assistant.
  • Work cooperatively with other program staff.
  • Supervise classroom volunteers.
  • Display appropriate work habits.
  • Keep records according to procedures.
  • Participate in training and observation/feedback leading to continuous improvement and demonstrate ongoing professional growth.
  • Follow and uphold agency policies, practices, and procedures as well as state and national standards.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Center Supervisor.

Teachers must have a minimum of an AA in Child Development or a BS in ECE or HDFS (w/a concentration in preschool).

Teacher Assistants must be 18 or older, and have OR be willing to obtain CDA or higher credential (such as a Child Development Certificate); training is provided.

Must pass background checks and have three good work references. Work is full-time in Auburn, Opelika, or Hurtsboro, Alabama.

Preference given to qualified bi-lingual applicants who speak Spanish.

Job Type: Full-time 7:30 am – 3:30 pm.
