Description
The FPI (Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection) Inspector I is responsible for conducting nondestructive testing (NDT) on aerospace components to ensure structural integrity, quality, and compliance with safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform Fluorescent Penetrant Inspections (FPI):
- Conduct pre-cleaning, penetrant application, dwell, and development processes on aerospace components.
- Inspect parts under ultraviolet (UV) light to detect surface discontinuities, cracks, or defects.
- Follow Procedures and Standards:
- Adhere to industry standards such as ASTM, ASME, NAS-410, and company-specific procedures.
- Ensure compliance with aerospace quality assurance regulations (e.g., AS9100).
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate inspection records, including defect reports, logs, and certification forms.
- Provide detailed feedback to manufacturing and quality teams on detected anomalies.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain FPI equipment, including tanks, lights, and inspection tools.
- Monitor and adjust bath concentrations, viscosity, and penetrant effectiveness as needed.
- Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams:
- Work closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to address inspection findings.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation when defects are identified.
- Safety and Environmental Compliance:
- Follow all safety guidelines for handling penetrants, cleaners, and developers.
- Ensure proper disposal of chemicals and compliance with environmental regulations.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (technical certifications preferred).
- Certifications:
- Certification in NDT Level I or II in Liquid Penetrant Testing (LPT) per NAS-410 or equivalent.
- Familiarity with additional NDT methods is a plus (e.g., ultrasonic, radiographic).
- Experience:
- Prior experience in FPI or nondestructive testing, preferably in aerospace manufacturing.
- Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and ability to detect minor defects.
- Proficiency in interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
