About the Role (job title and summary):

We are looking for an operational accounting professional that thrives in a fast-paced startup environment who is not afraid to speak up, thinks big but appreciates the importance of details.  A motivated leader with an innovative mindset who enjoys challenging work and is not afraid to run towards “fire”.  This role will start and ultimately lead the operational accounting team. 

How you’ll make a difference (required duties and responsibilities):

  • Accounts payable management and accounting
  • Vendor management
  • Treasury management and accounting
  • Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation
  • Audit assistance
  • General ledger reconciliations
  • Expense reimbursement management
  • Process improvements and documentation
  • Inter-co billings, allocations, and reconciliations
  • Assist with the year-end external audits and interim reviews
  • Exposure to M&A activities

People Management 

  • Hires, trains, and develops assigned staff in accordance with company policies, practices, and procedures
  • Conducts regular meetings with assigned employees to assess goal, objective, and task performance
  • Proactively identifies and implements developmental opportunities for assigned staff
  • Supports building an inclusive culture where employees thrive, and organizational goals are achieved.
  • Leads, manages, and develops a high-performing team through effective communication, empowerment, and coaching and development techniques.
  • Models leadership in full alignment with Canopy’s Values.
  • Hires, trains, and develops assigned staff in accordance with company policies, practices, and procedures

 


Skills to be Successful (minimum qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Accounts payable or similar operational accounting function
  • Bright, quick learner, self-motivated
  • Strong knowledge of Accounting
  • An understanding of financial reporting systems, procedures, and controls
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and prioritization capabilities

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Manufacturing environment that requires extended time standing, walking, bending and reaching. Ability to carry up to 50lbs for up to a distance of 100ft may be required. Occasional extended and repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers to cut and manipulate small objects. Ability to work in a humid and pollinated environment.
