Job Title: Survey Crew Chief

Job Description

The Survey Crew Chief will be responsible for conducting surveys for various projects in Southwest and West Michigan. These projects include private and municipal sectors for commercial buildings, education, multi-family, and industrial building sites. Types of surveys include Topographic, Boundary, Construction Layout, and ALTA. The role involves construction staking and running surveys using equipment such as Trimble and GPS. The Survey Crew Chief will work both in the field and in the office located in Kalamazoo.

Responsibilities

• Review and follow project scope, ensuring all project information and files are well organized.
• Determine appropriate surveying techniques to be used on each project.
• Gather survey data to map areas, measure angles, distances, and elevations.
• Coordinate, perform, and supervise field work for a variety of standard types of surveys.
• Analyze plans, plats, and legal documents to appropriately plan and schedule work.
• Draft and manage reports, descriptions, and documentation for all surveys performed.
• Create reports for construction staking.
• Ensure survey projects meet standards and tasks are completed in a timely manner.
• Maintain organized record keeping, time keeping, and job charges.
• Maintain surveying equipment.

Essential Skills

• 3 years of experience as a Survey Crew Chief, running land survey projects independently or managing a survey field crew.
• 3 years of experience with Topographic, Boundary, Construction Layout/Staking, and ALTA surveys.
• Proficiency with surveying equipment such as Trimble and GPS.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience or license in survey drone operations.

Work Environment

The firm is a smaller company with about 15 employees located in Kalamazoo, MI, providing professional civil engineering and land surveying services throughout the Midwest. The work environment is detailed-oriented, ensuring high-quality project execution. The role involves both fieldwork and office work, providing a balanced work experience.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $36.00/hr.
