Job Title: Preparedness Coordinator

Department: Health Department

Reports To: Clinic Director/Public Health Nurse

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Principal Function: The Preparedness Coordinator is responsible for completing and/or coordinating all duties related to emergency preparedness for the Adams County Health Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:

1. Completes all deliverables for the Public Health Preparedness Grant - Attachment A.

2. Conducts and/or participates in all required drills and exercises. Coordinates medication distribution and/or any other assistance related to the Health Department in the case of a County-wide emergency.

3. Develops and updates preparedness plans, as needed.

4. Attends all meetings, workshops, and trainings related to the Health Department.

5. Coordinates with the Adams County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) to ensure that all plans are compatible with the County’s comprehensive plans.

6. Completes administrative duties to include: attending meetings, reviewing reports, completing various reports, answering inquiries, etc., as needed.

7. Maintains an effective communication process with the Clinic Director/Public Health Nurse.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience: Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. National Incident Management System (NIMS) training through ICS 400 is required.

Other Skills and Abilities: The following skills and abilities are either required or desired.

· Computer software skills required include: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

· A working knowledge of emergency management principles, practices, methods and techniques related to preparing, implementing, and maintaining the Adams County emergency operations plan is required.

· A working knowledge of the mandatory Federal and Indiana state regulations regarding emergency management is required.

· A working knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Indiana Grants Management System (IGMS) is required.

· The ability to provide leadership and direction, while fostering a spirit of cooperation among various Federal, Indiana state, and local agencies, personnel and the general public is required.

· The ability to use specialized equipment required in emergency situations is required.

· A general understanding of report writing, while paying close attention to detail is required.

· The ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with complex, highly sensitive information is required.

· The ability to work rapidly for long periods, manage and coordinate multiple workloads, work on several tasks at the same time, and complete assignments effectively amidst frequent distractions and interruptions, often under time pressure is required.

· The ability to work with other County offices internally and externally to resolve customer issues is required.

· The ability to attend meetings and conferences, as needed.

· The ability to operate a computer, printer, copy machine, scanner, fax machine, and other office equipment is desired.

· The ability to speak, read and write in English is required. Spanish is desired.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is exposed to working in outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather): working near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat (non-weather); risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

The appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn on the job at all times in accordance with the department’s standard operating procedures (SOPs).

While the Health Department is usually open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, this position will require work beyond these hours and on the weekends. It also may require the ability to drive a County vehicle. Thus, a valid driver’s license is required.

Pay: $20.40 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 20 per week
