Job Title: Public Safety Systems Support Technician
Department: Sheriff’s Department
Reports To: Chief Deputy Sheriff - - IT Director
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Principal Function: The Public Safety Systems Support Technician is responsible for providing technical support for the Adams County Sheriff’s Office including central communications, jail department, central operations, and participating community agencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:
1. Provides technical support for hardware and software within the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, both on the physical network and remotely in the Sheriff’s Office patrol cars including: performing diagnostics, identifying problems, and making minor repairs.
2. Installs and configures computers, software and other equipment within the patrol cars, as appropriate.
3. Assists in the maintenance of various databases for the 911 system, including receiving new information or troubleshooting appropriate databases or systems.
4. Acts as a liaison with vendors for technical support, including reporting issues and implementing solutions. Conducts follow-up on issues reported as necessary. Monitors work of service vendors to ensure proper completion of repairs.
5. Assists with active directory management and maintenance specific to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
6. Researches and requests new hardware for purchase, as needed.
7. Updates and upgrades software as needed; updates, prepares and maintains documentation of procedures for installing software.
8. Assists participating community agencies with issues, as needed.
9. Works to resolve issues with data communication between patrol units and dispatch center consoles.
10. Develops a working knowledge of specialized hardware, software and technical terminology used in public safety and/or emergency services.
11. Serves as on-call for hardware or software emergencies.
12. Maintains effective communication with the Adams County Government Information Technology department regarding issues, or for additional support.
13. Actively promote a culture of continuous learning, improvement and development.
14. Completes administrative duties to include: attending meetings, reviewing statistics and reports, completing various reports, answering inquiries, etc., as needed.
15. Maintains an effective communication process with the Chief Deputy and Information Technology Director.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university in information systems (IS), business administration, or related field; and three-years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience in a public safety or law enforcement related environment is desired.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally is exposed to working near moving mechanical parts and the risk of electrical shock when working with office equipment and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
While the offices of Adams County are usually open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, this position may require work beyond these hours and on the weekends. It also may require the ability to drive a County vehicle. Thus, a valid driver’s license may be required.
