What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Professor of Animation position at Adelphi University?
The Department of Art and Art History at Adelphi University invites applications for a new tenure-track position in Animation, beginning Fall 2025. Applicants should possess a Master of Fine Arts degree or other appropriate terminal degree in the designated medium or have commensurate experience in the field. The rank will be Assistant Professor.
The ideal candidate will have a broad understanding of new technologies, experience in 2D and 3/D animation, a strong background in character animation and visual storytelling and will be able to lead our animation minor and support both our video game minor and our digital offerings. They will have some experience teaching at the University level.
The successful candidate for this position will teach courses in their area of expertise and be expected to contribute to a rotation of core courses in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program.
Courses this candidate will be expected to teach may include, but are not limited to, introductory through advanced animation (e.g., 2D/3D animation), storyboarding, character design, topics courses in the history of animation and foundations.

The department seeks an animation practitioner who has both experience in commercial
animation and/or game design and a proven ongoing commitment to independent artistic creation within the field. They will demonstrate an appreciation of independent animation both past and present and have an interest in encouraging original approaches to the medium and visual narrative.
For tenure and promotion, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active artistic practice resulting in presentations at the national and/or international level.
