Fort Benton is seeking an Agricultural Teacher/FFA advisor for the 2023-24 school year.

Located in the heart of Montana, Fort Benton, provides the advantage of working and residing in a close-knit community and enjoying one of the Treasure State's hidden gems. Its close proximity to Great Falls (Montana's 3rd largest city) provides the convenience of activities and services not available to other rural communities. Fort Benton is a farming and ranching community located in the Golden Triangle of Agriculture. The Highwood and Bears Paw mountains are nearby andh unting and fishing are abundant in the area year round. Showdown Ski Area is a reasonable drive for some of the best skiing in Montana.

Salary: Dependent on Experience.

Benefit package includes: FFA stipend ($4100), Employer Health insurance contribution ($894/month)

Reports to: 7-12 Principal and Superintendent

Essential Functions:

Classroom Instruction

Teach the following schedule of 7-12 Ag classes: classes to be determined

Prepare and evaluate teaching schedule, curriculum, and teaching calendars

Conduct field trips, both in and out of district

Secure materials for resale to students (e.g. welding metal, wood, etc.)

Prepare teaching plans, demonstration plans, and teaching materials for all classes

Foster equal opportunity practices and encourage students' association

Pay attention to cultural or societal differences in dealing with the students

Complies with Board policies, rules, regulations, and directives

Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAE)

Visit students' SAE projects once per semester and at least once during the summer, or a minimum of 180 visits per year.

Assist students in keeping SAE records

Assist students in exhibiting livestock, crops and agricultural mechanics projects at fairs and shows

FFA

Serve as advisor for the FFA chapter

Assist students in coordinating FFA activities at the local, area, district, state and national levels

Prepare and train FFA and agriculture contest teams and entries

Assist students in preparing applications for proficiency awards, state and American Degrees, etc.

Assist students in conducting a public relations program for the local FFA chapter and agriculture department.

Other:

Advise and coordinate the Young Farmers chapters and activities

Advise and coordinate the local FFA Alumni chapter

Prepare and track the budget for the agriculture program each year.

Coordinate, maintain inventories, and keep record of the agriculture resale accounts for classroom and shop supplies

Purchase supplies and equipment for the classroom, office and shop facilities

Inventory the supplies and equipment of the agriculture program

Cooperate in maintaining, planning, and improving the physical facilities

Complete and file required reports with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

MT Class 2 Teaching License, Vocational-Agriculture 5-12 Endorsement

Basic knowledge of computers

Integrity and professionalism

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and parents/guardians

Ability to handle stressful situations.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.

Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.

Equipment Used:

General shop/construction equipment, computer, calculator, copier, telephone/voice mail, fax.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee frequently will work irregular or extended hours while performing the duties of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in quiet environments.

Mental/Motor Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). The employee frequently works within time constraints and maintains attentiveness intensity. The employee is frequently involved in social interactions which require oral and written communications. The employee will using and demonstrating the use of tools including but not limited to power tools.
