Job Description: The surgical technologist apprentice role is part of a paid full-time training program that will prepare the apprentice for a career as a surgical technologist and successfully complete the NCCT Surgical Technologist Certification exam. The training program consists of online classes, classroom lectures, skills labs, exams, and clinicals. The first part of the training program will occur onsite at ANW and the second part is at the home site. During clinicals, the apprentice will learn under the direct supervision of their preceptor. Skills the apprentice will gain include but are not limited to: Participate as a surgical team member. Prepare and set up the OR for procedures. Identify supplies, instruments, and equipment. Maintain a safe environment for patients and other staff, including using electrical equipment and instruments correctly and maintaining an appropriate sterile field. Follow aseptic technique standards of practice. Comply with Allina Health policies and regulatory requirements for point of use care of instruments, medications, and specimen handling. Assist the physician in the scrub role during surgical procedures such as anticipating needs for instruments, equipment, and other supplies. Perform sponge, sharps, and other surgical counts accurately and account for all instruments and items on the field. Communicate appropriately to other team members when needs arise during the surgical intervention. Principle Responsibilities Clinicals in the operating room which includes completing the necessary hours for certification Online MedCerts curriculum including certification exam Classroom lecture and labs on site Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required principle competencies as listed on the job description Preferred Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Licenses/Certifications Tech in Surgery TS-C (NCCT) required within 1 year of hire BLS Tier 1 - Basic Life Support completed within program Physical Demands Medium Work: Lifting weight Up to 50 lbs. occasionally, Up to 25 lbs. frequently Pay Range Flat Rate: $21.00 per hour *This position is paid on a standard non-negotiable hourly rate. Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
