Overview
The Physical Therapy Medical Assistant/Aide assists the Lead Physical Therapist in the safe and efficient operation of the Department of Physical Therapy. Assists the Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants in preparing and maintaining the department to receive and treat patients. Serves as the staff member in charge of the department regarding non-clinical issues in the absence of the Lead Physical Therapist.
Responsibilities
PROVIDER SCHEDULES
- Manage provider appointment templates on CHCS I
- Create, open and manage appointment slots in CHCS I on a weekly basis
PATIENT APPOINTMENTS
- Assists Lead Physical Therapist with referral review as required
- Book patient appointments as needed to assist front desk clerks
- Create new appointment slots as requested by therapists
- Creates and maintains trigger point dry needling appointments
SUPPLIES
- Serves as the primary contact for supply issues for the department
- Order routine clinic supplies on a weekly basis
- Receive, organize and manage incoming supplies
- Perform inventory counts for clinic-wide inspections as required by supply personnel
- and clinic administrators
- Stock all gyms and treatment rooms with appropriate supplies
CLINIC MAINTENANCE
- Serves as the primary contact for maintenance issues for the department
- Perform daily temperature checks of the following equipment:
- Hydrocollators
- Ice Pack Machines
- Replenish the water in hydrocollators as needed
- Ensure supplies are readily available for routine clinic treatments such as alcohol pads, electrodes,
- ultrasound gel, etc.
- Ensure towels are readily available for patient care
- Perform monthly cleaning of the hydrocollators and freezers
- Check lights and other electrical equipment in the treatment and exam rooms to ensure they are
- operational
- Prepare and keep treatment areas ready for care
- Remove trash and excess equipment or supplies as necessary. Wipe down treatment tables and
- equipment, counters, sinks and other areas with approved products
- Check sharps containers and replace according to policy
- Promote a safe and secure clinic environment by properly disposing of bio-hazardous waste and
- keeping halls, treatment rooms, and patient waiting areas free of obstacles
- Perform and record water quality tests of the pool per SOP
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
- Assist reception staff with patient flow
- Maintain and organize patient information handouts
- Print, organize and manage monthly provider peer reviews
- Answer phone and take messages as needed
- Maintain Personnel Qualification roster and schedule individual mandatory training
CLINICAL DUTIES
- Assist the Physical Therapy staff in ensuring that proper infection control procedures are followed
- during each patient care event.
- Set up and removal of patients on ice, heat, iontophoresis or interferential as prescribed by
- therapists
- Provide physical therapy assistance and other services commensurate with the level of
- training for patients in the served age groups
Qualifications
- Must hold a current and valid BCLS certification
- Must have a current PPD (not sure this is a requirement any more).
