Summary:
Under the primary supervision of the medical Director of Student Health Services, provides medical care to University students/patients within the scope of licensing, training, and credentialing; shall assist with medical staff and training, shall be required to attend Alabama A & M Student Health Services staff meetings as directed; and work collaboratively with identified health care providers including the AAMU counseling center to make student/patient referrals as appropriate
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides direct student/patient care.
- Participates in night and weekend medical on call rotations.
- Completes charting and required paperwork within twenty-four (24) hours.
- Promotes health consciousness, encourage patient accountability, and self-care
- Provides patient teaching as clinically appropriate.
- Reports all clinic hazards/concerns immediately to the supervisor on staff.
- Makes appropriate referrals to medical and mental health specialist as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):
- Master’s degree
- Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) required.
- Currently licensed with the Alabama Board of Registered Nursing
- Certified as a (FNP) is required National Certification is required.
- Currently Adult CPR certification, Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

- Must chart progress notes, referrals and medications dispended and prescribed daily
- Demonstrate quality, empathetic, and compassionate healthcare
- Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate each individual patient care appropriately
- Ability to effectively respond to students who may have questions regarding their diagnosis and treatment plan
- Ability to interpret clinical laboratory results
- Willingness to make contact with students regarding direct care and laboratory results
- Must be able to supervise Medical Assistant (s) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) as needed
- Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Must be computer literate and skilled in Microsoft Office software applications
- Must be available to function according to standing orders developed in consultation with the Medical Director
- Must adhere to the Counseling and Health Services Confidentiality Policy
Must be available to work during Student Health Center operating hours and on campus events, and participate in the medical provider on call rotation.
