Alaska Womens Health is Hiring a Medical Scribe Near Anchorage, AK

Job Summary

The Scribe works to facilitate patient flow through Alaska Women’s Health clinic and to ensure an accurate and complete medical record for each patient. The Scribe assists the medical provider by accompanying them during the medical history-taking and exam, recording details of both into the medical record, and coordinating departmental resources regarding tests, orders, ultrasound, radiology and results.

Essential Job Responsibilities

The Scribe reports to the Nurse Manager but will receive direction from the medical provider and /or Administrator. The Scribe is responsible for carrying out primary duties as outlined by the providers/nurse manager or administrator. These functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations in dealing with Providers, patients, patient’s families, co-workers, and others in a professional and confidential manner.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment consistent with OSHA and clinic standards.
  • Recognizes and takes action on potentially unsafe acts and conditions.
  • Demonstrates ability to operate clinic equipment such as, computers, paging systems, telephones, and fax machines.
  • Demonstrates the computer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications
  • Demonstrates the ability and willingness to learn unfamiliar tasks.
  • Demonstrates acceptance to change in a positive manner.
  • Demonstrates accurate and timely charting.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of Medical terminology as it pertains to obstetrics and gynecology.
  • Demonstrates competency in EMR charting.

Job Duties

The Scribe is expected to perform other position related duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Records details of chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, past medical history, social history, family medical history, disease risk factors, medications and allergies.
  • Record details of physical exam, including pertinent positives and negatives, noted abnormalities and patient’s general condition.
  • Documents any procedures performed by the provider on the medical chart.
  • Transcribes any consultations or discussions with family and/or other physicians in the medical record.
  • Lists all proper diagnoses as well as any follow-up instructions and prescriptions, as dictated by the provider.
  • Other duties and limitations as delineated by the provider, nurse manager, and/or administrator.
  • The Scribe does not directly assist with patient care and has no medical decision making..

Job Qualifications

· Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations and able to conduct oneself with the utmost professionalism regardless of the situation.

· Good sense of organization and attention to detail.

· Ability to document accurately and in a timely manner.

· Ability to work effectively with patients and co-workers.

· Consistency and timeliness in attendance.

· Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and understand the English language.

· Ability to support leadership collaboration and initiatives.

· Excellent keyboard skills.

Education

· High school diploma and one year of college.

· Current BLS certification.

Physical/Mental Requirements

· Flexibility in scheduling

· Coping with a sometimes high-pressure environment.

· Standing for long periods of time

· Frequent walking for short distances

· Repetitive motion work with keyboards, physical writing

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.47 - $26.87 per hour
