Alcott HR is Hiring a Corporate Counsel Near Farmingdale, NY

As Alcott HR's Corporate Counsel, you will report directly to our CEO and will advise, assist with, investigate, and resolve legal matters within the scope of labor and employment. Alcott HR is a Professional Employer Organization (PEO)/Human Resources Outsourcing (HRO) firm. We provide a variety of customized HR solutions and services to our clients, empowering leaders to focus on their core business and enabling them to grow their organizations more quickly and efficiently.

As the leader of our legal and compliance team, you will provide overall labor and employment law guidance, and work directly with our internal teams including human resources professionals. You'll develop strategy and protocol to assess employment law-related legal risks and stay current on industry developments related to these laws. You will lead and mentor a small team of compliance professionals and execute on short-term and long-term goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide labor and employment law guidance and support to client-facing human resource professionals.
  • Offer strategic input to the business from an operational risk perspective, provide timely and insightful advice.
  • Coordinate response to quantified risks, prepare and deliver regular reports based on thorough operational risk analysis and insights.
  • Ensure risk management policies and strategies are in compliance with applicable regulations, contracts, state and city laws, and strategic goals.
  • Assist with developing strategy and protocol to assess employment law-related legal risks associated with client transactions.
  • Identify on-going compliance training and support needs for client-facing human resource professionals.
  • Stay current on PEO legal and industry developments related to labor and employment laws.
  • Lead and execute strategic design and process improvement projects internally.
  • Investigate and respond to claims, EEOC charges and other administrative actions.
  • Oversee employment litigation matters, regulatory hearings, and investigations.
  • Maintain excellent partnerships with clients to meet their legal and business needs.
  • Provide support for any other matter as may become necessary.

Requirements:

  • 5 years of experience in labor and employment in private practice or corporate legal department strongly preferred.
  • Law degree (JD)
  • Strong preference for experience in advising PEOs and/or PEO clients.
  • Admitted to practice law in New York State.
  • Excellent communication and strategic thinking skills.
  • Must have the ability to effectively interact with all levels of Sr. leadership team.
