Job Summary
The ideal candidate will provide high-quality nursing care to patients in an inpatient setting, focusing on mental health and emotional well-being. Psychiatric Registered Nurses (RN) provide care for patients with mental illness or disability. The nurses in this role are registered nurses with additional skills to work with difficult patients. They provide direct patient care and assistance to doctors for patients in crisis, and offer evaluations of patient's progress with treatment.
Duties
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' mental health status and physical needs.
- Administer medications and monitor patient responses to treatment.
- Perform essential nursing procedures, including venipuncture, catheterization, and gastric lavage as needed.
- Provide crisis intervention and support for patients experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms.
- Maintain accurate patient records using electronic health record systems such as Cerner.
- Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies.
Requirements
- Valid nursing license (RN or LPN) in the state of practice.
