Overview:
Allegheny West Eyecare is seeking a full time, detail-oriented, friendly, and customer-focused Optical Assistant/Floater to join our busy, family-owned practice. The ideal candidate will have a passion for eye care and assisting patients with their optical needs.
Duties:
- Assist customers in selecting eyewear that suits their style and prescription needs
- Perform preliminary tests on patients such as visual acuity, depth perception, and color perception
- Handle administrative tasks including scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, and maintaining patient records
- Educate patients on proper eyewear care and usage
- Support the optometrist in conducting eye examinations and other clinical procedures
- Cover absent positions throughout the office
- Assist as an ophthalmic technician, dispensing optician, and at the front desk
Skills:
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and maintaining patient confidentiality
- Understanding of medical terminology, ophthalmology, and optical procedures
- Proficiency in handling medical records accurately
- Ability to provide excellent customer service, especially for senior care patients
- Basic understanding of retail math for transactions and inventory management
