What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Paraprofessional High School (Level 1) position at Alliance High School?

JOB SUMMARY: Assist students with disabilities who need support to access the curriculum and benefit from their educational placement.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

85% Reinforce Program Instruction

1. Assist students with daily transitions (e.g., transition between tasks and/or rooms, lunch, playground, etc.)

2. Assist students in the general education classroom helping the student to access the curriculum under supervision of the special education teacher

3. Assist the special education teacher in implementing student’s Individual Educational Plan (IEP) goals and accommodations

4. Assist in implementing behavior management programs

5. Under supervision of special education teacher, reinforce instruction introduced by the student’s general and/or special education teacher(s)

6. Monitor the student to ensure his/her safety and the safety of other persons

7. Foster and encourage the independence of the student

8. Assist with crisis intervention which includes physical restraints

9. Establish a positive and nurturing relationship with the student

10. Assist in supporting classroom discipline

11. Assist student during field trips and other outings (e.g., assist transportation drivers secure wheelchairs when appropriate, on bus/van, assist students with orientation and mobility, assist teacher(s) in monitoring students for safety, etc)

12. Assist students with physical elements of hygiene, bath rooming, occupational therapy, feeding, clothing, diapering, transfers, etc.

13. Collect and maintain data as directed by supervising teacher

 

10% Student Supervision Responsibility

1. Supervise and monitor students for appropriate behavior on playground, study hall, locker room lunchroom, hallway, etc.

2. Inform teacher and/or principal of discipline problems. Monitor discipline situations according to district discipline guidelines

 

3 % Communication

1. Maintain communication with teacher regarding schedules, student progress and problem solving on a daily basis

 

2 % Preparatory

1. Assist classroom teacher with preparatory materials Perform related work as assigned or requested including attending professional development/meetings, in-services and workshops
