What are the responsibilities and job description for the Superintendent position at Alliance Water Resources?
Alliance Water Resources is a growing water and wastewater contract operations company with an open Superintendent position in our Bowling Green, MO area.
This is a supervisory, administrative and technical position that directs the work of staff members engaged in a variety of activities to water systems, and customer service.
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 – 3:30 with On-Call hours
Essential Functions:
- Supervises, directs, evaluates, and trains staff to effectively and efficiently read and record water meters, report water meter problems, and complete normal customer requests such as turn-on, turn-off, and transfers of service.
- Supervises, directs, assists, and performs the operation, maintenance and repair of all equipment including water production plant, wells, water mains, fire hydrants, valves and any related distribution equipment.
- Prepares the daily schedule by prioritizing work orders and assigning them to appropriate crew leaders.
- Provides assistance to contractors and local utilities as needed; performs plan reviews and coordinates with consulting engineers as required.
- Provides on-site project management for construction and maintenance which may include scheduling shut-downs, tie-ins, installing equipment, and conducting testing programs; assists in responding to client, customer, or agency complaints or inquiries; recommends improvements to eliminate problems.
- Performs inspections on plant operations and activities including equipment, maintenance, and safety related issues; recommends replacements and specifications for new equipment; orders materials and equipment within appropriate authority.
- Supervises or performs backflow prevention program and maintains related records.
- Prepares or assists in preparation of distribution budget per the specifications of the manager.
- Assists in personnel actions including the hiring process and employee evaluations; responds to complaints and grievances; takes disciplinary action; coordinates the completion of time sheets and other payroll data.
- Communicates with client, staff, customers, contractors/developers, and employees regarding meter reading, customer service requests, and general water system issues.
- Investigates and takes appropriate action in response to complaints.
- Assigns routes and accounts based on client billing schedule and other related criteria.
- Participates in related professional association activities; stays knowledgeable of new developments in materials, equipment and processes to ensure effective and efficient operation of the systems.
- Assists in public relations events and plant tours; maintains positive relationships with co-workers, clients, customers, vendors, and the general public.
- Reviews and maintains inventory of materials according to set procedures; authorizes the purchasing of materials within authority limits.
- Assures proper safety standards and precautions are followed and that all safety equipment is available and in good working condition according to company policy and equipment manual.
- Prepares reports and maintains records to meet federal, state, local, and company requirements.
- Performs related duties as needed or assigned.
- Five years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of water distribution, water/wastewater systems

Three years of supervisory experience
- Or any combination of education and experience
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Water Treatment License - Preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of proper and effective practices, methods, and procedures related to water distribution system maintenance and construction.
- Knowledge of state and federal standards and regulations governing water systems. Knowledge of basic principles of mechanical and hydraulic theory.
- Knowledge of safety standards and precautions pertaining to the use and operation of motorized equipment and hand/power tools.
- Knowledge of effective supervisory practices and techniques.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and evaluate the work of staff.
- Ability to keep records and prepare reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with employees, clients, and vendors.
- Ability to resolve problems in stressful conditions using sound judgment.
- Ability to operate computers and related programs.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply laboratory and statistical data.
- Ability to be on-call after hours and weekends.

Ability on a daily basis to:
- Work in all weather conditions and walk across rough terrain
- Lift, move, or manipulate equipment up to 100 lbs.
- Work in confined spaces. Bend, stoop, and twist as necessary
- Climb stairs and vertical ladders.
