The American Academy of Dermatology is seeking a Manager, Science & Clinical Practice Guidelines located in our Rosemont, IL. office responsible for reviewing literature, identifying, and analyzing scientific articles for the development of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines working in collaboration with physicians. Serve as the scientific and methodological consultant to volunteer guideline and research agenda physician work groups, and Academy staff as needed.

Responsibilities:
- Serve as primary staff liaison to the expert physician work groups developing Clinical Practice Guidelines and supporting the Academy’s research agenda as assigned. Provide scientific, methodological, and administrative support for work group activities. This includes drafting meeting agendas, coordinating meetings and conference calls, drafting programs/strategies to be discussed on the agenda, drafting and distributing summation reports, tracking follow-ups, assisting with developing and monitoring the committee budget, and ensuring annual reports are complete. The staff liaison will work with the chair to assure the business of the committee is accurately recorded and placed on the appropriate agenda(s) of the appropriate oversight committee, council or Board. Staff liaison will develop and maintain knowledge of the committee’s area of expertise and work effectively and cooperatively with volunteers.
- Identify, review, and analyze scientific articles for assigned guideline topic(s). Work with the Medical Librarian to coordinate the comprehensive search/retrieval of literature.
- Evaluate and select appropriate articles for inclusion in the guideline. Develop tables that summarize the data from selected articles for the use of physician’s work groups to formulate recommendations for the guideline.
- Contribute to the completion of intradepartmental requests for scientific/research support as needed.
- Assist the Director with recommending and determining appropriate strategic goals that relate to the department and the overall Academy mission. Contribute to the development and implementation of programs to fulfill these goals as appropriate.
Requirements:
- Advanced degree in biological sciences or related field required with a minimum of three years’ experience in evaluating scientific journal articles, and strong familiarity with medical writing and terminology.
- Require background in reviewing scientific/clinical research literature in peer review journals. Require experience in utilizing internet searches with Medline or Pub Med along with an analytical approach to technical or scientific materials.
- Knowledge of, and experience with evidence-based guidelines desirable.
- Ability to coordinate the development of clinical guidelines and other research products across varying, and often multi-year timelines.
- Strong ability to search published literature, understand the fundamental structure and design of a scientific study or clinical trial, and assess study strengths/limitations.
- Ability to apply effective verbal, non-verbal, and written communication methods with colleagues and volunteer physicians.
- Possess strong organizational, time management, and planning skills.
- Ability to execute projects under modest supervision. Ability to work in a team-environment that involves flexibility, strategic thinking, adapting to change and meeting deadlines.
- Some travel required.
