What are the responsibilities and job description for the Graphic Design Manager position at American Academy of Optometry?
REPORTS TO: Vice President, Membership and Communications
MAIN PURPOSE: The Graphic Design Manager is responsible for raising awareness of the American Academy of Optometry and its work, particularly through collateral and material design. The Manager will develop resources that promote the Academy’s initiatives and provide general support for the Marketing and Membership team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend cross-functional meetings to gather direction to create compelling collateral and presentations (i.e. PDFs, logos, social media imagery, email, website, slides, etc.).
- Identify creative needs (i.e. layout, versions, interactive design, photo direction, etc.) for each initiative based on industry best practices and working knowledge of Academy audience segments.
- Design creative that follows brand guidelines and meets/exceeds strategic objectives.
- Work directly and independently with various departments and stakeholders to complete design projects, ensuring effective communication throughout the process.
- Eye for design, typography, contrast, color usage, placement, and more to design beautiful, engaging, and interactive imagery that follow industry best practices.
- Experience converting graphic designs into the correct format and image sizes for multiple uses such as email, social media (by platform), etc.
- Demonstrate behaviors that are consistent with the Academy’s values and philosophies.
- Provide support during the annual meeting for membership events and at the Membership Booth.
- Collaborate on committee/volunteer initiatives and projects as needed.
- Utilize creative/design skills to support member recruitment and retention programs.
- Serve as back-up customer service for membership inquiries.
MINIMUM SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
? Bachelor’s degree required.
- 3 years’ experience in graphic design with working knowledge to build and/or adjust the imagery.
- 2 years following a process-oriented/project management work environment to drive consistency, quality, and quantity.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite specifically Adobe Indesign, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator
- Basic understanding of HTML
- Ability to easily create and work within source files (i.e. .jpg, .png, .ai, .eps, .svg, etc.).
- Ability and flexibility to adapt to change and a forward-thinking mentality.
- Intimate understanding of traditional and emerging multicultural trends.
- Ability to think creatively.
- Familiarity with the latest trends, technologies and methodologies in graphic design, web design, production, etc.
- Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects from concept to completion under tight deadlines.
- Influential team leader and member with a proven ability to build consensus across multiple departments.
- Client-focused, association, or healthcare experience preferred.
