About this Position
The primary role of the Estimator entails preparing estimates both from blueprints and on a design/build basis and managing smaller projects from start to finish. They will also prepare cost estimates by analyzing proposals, job site conditions, customer specifications, and blueprints. Works with management to plan and analyze assigned projects, establish schedules including project parameters, and execution.
The Position’s Responsibilities
- Complies and enforces strict safety policy and consider safety requirements when estimating projects.
- Maintains current knowledge of the industry through regular contact with customers and distributors.
- Continuously updates management of bidding and project status. Relay appropriate market information to management.
- Examines and reviews contracts and estimates and relays potential hazards to management.
- Ensures compliance with internal processes.
- Accountable for assigned projects’ scope of work, schedule, and budget.
- Responsible for continually promoting full range of services.
- Projects may include general construction systems and technologies outside of American Boiler’s core competency.
- Responsible for timely estimate preparation and distribution and customer satisfactory customer interaction. This position will have a high degree of customer interface.
- Meets with contractors and owners to discuss scope of project and budgets/estimates.
- Reviews and updates project cost estimates for projects. The employee is frequently required to visit job sites and may be required to climb ladders and survey equipment located on the roof or in a mechanical and electrical equipment room.
- Creates and revises project schedules.
- Oversees the following: preparation of material, equipment, subcontractors, and vendor orders.
- Prepares sub-contractor request for quotation’s (RFQ) including scope statements; plans and milestone dates; specs; bonding requirements; and billing schedule of values.
- Receives and qualifies subcontractor proposals.
- Assists with project progress billings, collections support and monitoring.
- Responsible for change order management by recommending solutions, facilitating quotes, and closing orders.
- Maintains customer satisfaction by investigating concerns, implementing corrective action, and communicating with customers and assigned staff.
- Establishes professional relationship and communicates with field support staff and customers and their representatives.
- Responsible for the successful transition of warranty to the service process.
- Flexibility to work outside normal work hours/weekends, as required.
- Some travel with occasional overnight stays.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction management with a minimum of 3 years of equivalent work experience or 7 years of experience in the construction industry or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Ability to establish and exploit good, mutually beneficial relationships with customers, key institutions other relevant bodies Must have ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Must have good interpersonal skills - honest, self-motivated, and team player.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Ability to professionally communicate in verbal and written formats with business owners, project managers, project leads, suppliers, and other corporate and field personnel.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have a clean driving record.
- Ability to work on multiple company bids simultaneously and delivering in accordance with deadline and production objectives.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries from customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies.
