Communications Manager, Strategic Writing

The American Diabetes Association is seeking a Communications Manager, Strategic Writing to join our Communications team. Reporting to the Vice President, Communications, the Communications Manager, Strategic Writing is responsible for partnering with other members of the communications team and partners across the ADA to develop compelling and impactful written communications that further ADA’s work to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Write press releases, op-eds, outreach materials, etc. to ensure ADA’s key messages are clearly and simply shared to increase awareness of ADA’s programs and priorities and to advance ADA’s reputation
• Develop compelling content (written, web, digital) to ensure an integrated communications approach
• Communicate strong calls to action, ideas, and messaging to engage various ADA audiences
• Partner with public relations team on press release development and thought leadership pieces
• Edit other written materials according to AP style
• Provide on-site communications support at the headquarters office in Arlington, VA, as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree
• 5 years’ experience writing for multiple communications channels
• Strong knowledge of AP style
• Proven track record developing press releases, op-eds and other strategic communications pieces
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and successfully manage multiple priorities
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Travel: 10 - 15%
• Must live within 100 miles of corporate headquarters in Arlington, VA

Compensation: $60k - $69k DOE
