This Senior Product Designer will be the driving force behind the design, interfaces, and visualization of products that fulfill the promise of the Future of Work at American Express. The role offers the unique opportunity to work across research and reality, strategy and tactics, ideation and execution, program and product, and more.

Digital Workplace (DW) is a part of the Technology organization that provides tools and services to American Express colleagues. The role reports to the Director, Strategy and Future of Work.

The Future of Work team maps the frontier, clears the jungle, and lays the tracks to enable Digital Workplace to quickly mobilize and implement in support of the world’s best colleague digital experience. We set requirements to engineer and incubate new, high-risk, high-reward digital workplace technologies that have the potential to be differentiators for American Express as a place to work. We also anticipate and shape how colleagues could, should, and will work in the future to lay out the digital workplace strategy, define the aspirational colleague experience, and work with our product teams to solve for these emerging needs.

The Senior Product Designer will be the primary design specialist for the team, collaborating with the Director to ideate on and present visual aspects of the product vision, and work with the development teams to ensure the highest fidelity of design and interaction in product delivery. This role uniquely combines skills in product invention and innovation, market knowledge, and user experience and behavior, with executional excellence across the full range of product design capabilities.
Key Responsibilities

  • Creates colleague-centered experiences and interfaces for products and solutions which improving end-to-end user journeys 

  • Develops the overall design and specifications for creating and enhancing the experience and functionality of user interfaces for company products 

  • Uses design tools to create storyboards, wireframes, prototypes, information architecture diagrams, and user journey maps for demonstrations and user testing 

  • Produces high-fidelity visual designs and design systems for implementation by development teams 

  • Works with Digital Labs and other teams to build and launch concepts, POCs, or early versions of products, as appropriate 

  • Communicates with and builds consensus across multiple teams in crafting product designs that makes appropriate trade-offs with schedule and impact 

  • Analyzes user research, business insights, and other data to continuously improve customer experiences 

  • Reviews proposed product changes or enhancements for compliance and alignment with desired user experience design and satisfaction standards and suggests improvements 

  • Creates and maintains UI/UX resources such as content templates, samples and guidelines, and style guides to streamline the design process for designers and developers

  • Is a thought-leader on all aspects of the colleague digital experience(s) 

  • Facilitates collaboration and alignment on design and interaction goals among teams including engagement, design, analytics, engineering, go-to-market, communications, compliance, support, and more

  • Lives in the marketplace; uncovers and stays in tune with every important start-up and innovation that could impact the colleague work experience 

  • Communicates across and up to leadership clearly and effectively

  • Represents Digital Workplace in relevant meetings with partners from across AET and the company

  • Is attuned to colleague needs through listening, data capture, sentiment, and other feedback and analytics methods

  • Understands and champions all cross-product experiences within the Future of Work context, and contributes to furthering all initiatives for How Work Gets Done at Amex

Qualifications

  • 7 years of senior product-design experience, including successful track record of designing new, engaging, and innovative products to market

  • Ability to simplify and turn complex interactions into intuitive user experiences that align to business goals 

  • Experience with designing user journeys, identifying difficulties, and designing solutions to tackle customer problems and discover opportunities 

  • Experience working in cross-functional, distributed teams in a matrixed environment 

  • Knowledgeable about Agile-based methods for product development 

  • Entrepreneurial thinker who’s organized, has great attention to detail, and can multitask

  • Ability to respond effectively to uncertainty and respond rapidly to changing business conditions or priorities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including solid decision-making, prioritization, presentation, and collaboration skills

  • Experience leading workshops on topics such as design thinking, rapid prototyping, and insight/journey mapping 

  • Willing to experiment and share new ways of looking at things 

  • Highly developed intuition and the confidence to rely on it 

  • Strategic, big picture thinking with strong discernment and high degree of creativity in finding opportunities for products, services, new processes, and systems

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage, influence, and inspire leaders, partners, and teams to drive collaboration and alignment at all levels

Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually bonus benefits
