Job Description
Tractor Trailer Operator
2nd shift - 2:30pm to 10:30pm
Operates tractor trailer as on over-the-road driver to service interplant or outside warehouse needs. Responsible for safekeeping and merchandise while in transit.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs pre-trip inspection on tractor-trailer unit and reports any minor or major repairs needed in order to keep the truck in good operating condition to Receiving Dock Leader
Keeps correct amount of gasoline in the tanks; checks and adds oil to the crank case as needed; checks the radiator for fullness of anti-freeze; checks the battery for the need of water ;checks the tires for proper air pressure; checks the hydraulic fifth wheel for proper amount of oil
Assists in loading or off-loading of trailer when necessary.
Performs duties as local yard driver to move trailers in and/or out of Receiving, Shipping, and Returned Goods dock areas.
Acts as back-up for yard driver in Shipping department during his absence.
Operates power truck in Receiving & Stores department during remaining time services are not required as tractor-trailer operator
Performs duties as Material Handler & Power Truck Operator as required.
Driver is required to mount/dismount yard tractor numerous times during the work day. Climbing onto the “catwalk” –manual dexterity to properly operate the tractor
Works under the direct supervision of the Receiving & Stores Leader
Experience Required
Must be qualified to operate a tractor-trailer unit as on over-the-road driver in compliance with the Department of Transportation Regulations. This requires possession of a Commercial Driver License. (CDL - A)
Must be able to drive a manual transmission.
