Job Summary

The Federal Relations Intern will work with the Federal Relations team to support and maximize the effectiveness of their advocacy efforts at the federal level. This position will be responsible for monitoring legislative activity on key energy issues, researching and drafting advocacy materials, providing support for special events, and other API projects as needed. Our ideal intern will have an understanding of the legislative process, interest in politics and energy issues, strong writing skills, and a willingness to learn.

Projects and Tasks

  • Monitor and report on legislative hearings, briefings and events focused on key energy issues. 
  • Track bills and legislative activity to assist with advocacy efforts.
  • Conduct research, draft and edit advocacy materials, fact sheets, and other communications for internal and external audiences.
  • Provide support in planning and executing legislative fly in days and other special events.
  • Other duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated interest in politics and policy. Experience on campaigns or Capitol Hill a plus. 
  • Familiarity with and interest in energy issues.
  • Ability to manage and lead multiple projects from strategic planning to successful execution.
  • Excellent relationship-building, problem solving and written/ oral communications skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite products (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access) or similar type of products in a Windows environment. 
  • Collaboratively-minded work ethic.
  • Detail-oriented approach to research projects. 
  • Positive demeanor and demonstrated pro-active attitude.
  • Professionalism and discretion in interactions with colleagues and external partners.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to remain in a stationary position working on a computer
  • Move about the office to access office machinery, meeting rooms, etc. 
  • Operate a computer and other office machinery such as printers and copy machines
  • Transport items and equipment up to 25 lbs. on occasion

 

Travel Requirements

  •  Up to 25%
