POSITION SUMMARY

The Controller is primarily responsible for financial data integrity and other priorities that facilitate day-to-day business operations within the Finance team. Additional responsibilities include ensuring stellar services are provided to all departments across the organization, vendors, and financial representatives; assisting with the monthly financial close; and other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the day-to-day Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable operations, including supervision of related staff and third-party resources. These include, but are not limited to:
    • Manage the weekly check run.
    • Review and approve new banking ACH or wire information for vendors.
    • Ensure daily deposits are batched and entered timely.
    • Verify that all outstanding check letters have been distributed timely and any related checks have been voided.
  • Manage operational data and ensure data integrity and accuracy. This entails investigating, researching, and resolving discrepancies within the various accounting systems as needed.
  • Identify and recommend systems, transactional, and reporting improvements for the department to enhance services provided to other ASH departments, vendors, and customers.
  • Validate financial data in Executive Committee reports for various departments.
  • Identify and keep abreast of new regulations to ensure the Society’s adherence to GAAP.
  • Monthly:
    • Assist with the financial close process. This includes exporting financial data from Personify to Financial Force and approving reconciliations prepared by other Finance staff.
    • Review the financial statements in detail and identify possible corrections needed.
    • Retrieve and maintain ADP General Ledger. Coordinate with Human Resources to map any new payroll deductions/earnings to the proper account code.
  • Annually:
    • Review annual audit schedules and documentation prepared by Finance Staff before submission to the auditors.
    • Research and complete DC Unclaimed Property filing for uncashed/voided vendor payments.
    • Assist the Director, Finance and the Chief Financial Officer with the annual budget as needed.
    • Compile the data needed for the preparation of 1099s. Coordinate with auditors to approve and submit them by the established deadline.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILLS REQUIRED

  • BS Degree in Accounting and at least 7 years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit setting; experience must include compiling financial statements.
  • Knowledge of standard accounting procedures, including GAAP principles and standard payroll procedures.
    • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Ability to work and interact with departments throughout the organization.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • CPA required.
    • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
    • Experience with Financial Force, ADP, Salesforce, and Personify preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUREMENTS

  • Requires ability to speak audibly and listen actively.
  • Requires ability to use computers, telephones, and other office equipment.
  • May require periodic out-of-town travel.

ASH has a hybrid work environment, with core in-office days for all ASH staff on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and telework on Mondays and Fridays for eligible positions. The Society’s headquarters is in Washington, DC, and is within walking distance of several Metro stations on the Blue/Orange/Silver and Red lines.

Salary : $116,300 - $145,300
