ESSENTIAL DUTIES, TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greets patients and provides comfort and reassurance to the patient.
- Introduces self to patient and verbally validates the procedure.
- Supports the patient’s right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Utilizes the nursing process to develop, plan, deliver, and execute patient’s plan of care during postoperative period.
- Assists the patient, if necessary, with dressing
- Performs safe and individualized nursing care for the patient in the immediate post-operative/post-anesthesia period.
- Assesses and legibly documents the patients’ physical and emotional status upon arrival in the recovery room.
- Develops a plan of care for the patient based on patient needs related to surgical condition and type of anesthesia.
- Monitors and reports any abnormal observed complications to the RN, Anesthesia provider, and physician, as appropriate.
- Assesses the physical and emotional status of the patient in preparation for discharge.
- Reviews postoperative instructions and prescriptions from the physician with patient and caregiver and legibly documents in patient’s medical record.
- Uses equipment effectively following manufacturer’s instructions for use.
- Uses proper techniques and procedures according to accepted standards of practice.
- Assists with inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels.
- Maintains order and cleanliness of PACU area.
- Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
- Attends all required education.
