What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dairy Plant Pasteurizer position at Anderson Erickson Dairy?
The milk plant pasteurizer is an employee who shall be familiar with all aspects of the PMO regarding milk pasteurization, cleanup, line connections, raw and pasteurized separation, and other legal aspects of a milk plant.
They are responsible for assuring that the HTSTs are properly checked in daily to assure that they meet the criteria for the thermal limit controllers for each type used in our operation. They check the HTST in as to PMO regulations as to cut in and cut out and recording to indicating temperatures. They check the functions of the micro switches on the flow diversion valves to assure they are working properly. They record this information on the charts and make sure the charts are showing the correct time. Pasteurizers must fully understand Anderson Erickson Dairy's HAACP plan. They must know what to do if any deviations occur. They will make sure nothing has been damaged or changed with the piping, balance tank, and instrumentation. They shall make sure all piping is hooked up properly for pasteurization on the HTSTs and then for CIP on the HTSTs. Pasteurizers shall check for brittle plastic and glass before they start their shift each day. Pasteurizers are responsible for checking thermometer gauges on all tanks and vats; computer screens; light covers in particular areas; and doors to chart recorders. A list of the brittle plastic/glass items is available for the pasteurizers at the panel board on the production floor. Pasteurizers shall be trained on Anderson Erickson Dairy's glass/brittle plastic protocol yearly.
They are responsible for making sure that the products run are the proper amount, the proper butterfat, and have been put in the proper tanks. They shall designate what tanks contain what products. They shall make sure that juice products are run first on the pasteurization equipment, lines, tanks and fillers. They shall make sure products containing eggs are run last on the pasteurizing equipment, lines, tanks, and fillers. They shall make sure all products meet legal and plant standards for ingredients and butterfat.
The milk plant pasteurizers are responsible for the proper cleaning of all tanks, vessels, lines, and other equipment associated with the milk pasteurizing process. This includes some of the raw blend tanks, raw lines, blend lines, pasteurizes tanks, pasteurized lines, HTSTs, and any other related items. Pasteurizers shall be familiar with the procedures for proper cleaning of all necessary equipment. Pasteurizers shall be familiar with the chemicals used to clean and sanitize all the equipment. Pasteurizers are familiar with the process to check for the presence of chemicals and chemical concentrations during CIP washes. Pasteurizers shall be trained yearly on, but not limited to, proper cleaning and sanitation procedures, along with the Allergen Protocol, pest management and others determined by Anderson Erickson Dairy.
The milk plant pasteurizers know how to check the pasteurized tanks, lines, and other equipment for cleanliness prior to each piece of equipment being sanitized. They must know how to sanitize all equipment upon start-up and when needed throughout the day. They shall be trained yearly on the GMPs associated with hook-ups and any other aspect of keeping the products high quality and safe for Anderson Erickson Dairy. Milk plant pasteurizers are responsible for the food safety and the food quality of the products they manufacture each day.
Milk plant pasteurizers will find relevant information pertinent to SQF and Anderson Erickson Dairy employees on the SQF bulletin board located in the main hallway leading to the facility. Periodically, the Director of Operations, the Director of Quality Control and/or the SQF Practitioner will post updated information on the bulletin board. Milk plant pasteurizers will receive any necessary training when new changes, relevant to Anderson Erickson Dairy's products or facilities, are implemented at the facility.
