Position Summary:
American Neurospine Institute seeks an energetic Medical Assistant for the Neurosurgery Clinic. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and intrapersonal skills required. Our Medical Assistants have positive attitude to learn administrative role of the front desk, who is a team player and keeps the clinic flow moving, ensure our supplies and care environment are in order, assist with patient record management, and call patients about appointments and medications. Prior medical office experience preferred.

Responsibilities:
- Greet patients, vendors, pharmaceutical representatives, and other visitors to our medical office
- Answer patient questions and provide assistance and directions when necessary
- Field all phone calls that arrive using our general office number
- Respond to emails that arrive using our general office email address
- Utilize our medical office software to schedule new and follow-up appointments for our patients
- Register new patients and update necessary records
- Distribute forms and paperwork to patients and then check them over to ensure that required fields are completed appropriately
- Process bills, invoices, and patient payments in office
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient records
- Manage inventory of necessary office supplies and coordinate reordering
- Ensure that the waiting room environment remains quiet, calm, and welcoming
- Uphold the positive reputation of our medical office by always treating visitors in a friendly, welcoming, and compassionate manner
- Interview patients and document basic medical history and vitals
- Organize and schedule appointments, obtain old medical records
- Obtain preauthorization for appointments, testing, and procedures
- Update and file medical records and insurance reports
- Arrange hospital admissions and laboratory services
- Assist during medical examinations
- Produce and distribute correspondence memos, letters, faxes and forms
- Prepare and clean treatment rooms and medical instruments
- Follow up with patients with phone calls, coordinate referrals and care
- Verify insurance coverage and assist the billing department with processing claims
- Communicate test results to patients when directed by physicians or nursing professionals
- Complete necessary disability and health insurance paperwork for patients
- Schedule and coordinate surgery for patients with the hospital, anesthesia, monitoring company, and instrument company
- Other duties as assigned
- Qualifications:
- 1-2 years experience in Neurosurgery/spine office.
- Certification from an accredited Medical Assisting program.
- High school Diploma or GED
- Basic proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English effectively.
- Ability to compute math for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, including rate, ratio, percentage, for the purpose of interpreting insurance co-pays and deductibles.
