Job Summary

Responsible for coordination and management of in-house lab operations.

Essential Job Functions

Under the supervision of the Lab Technical Consultant and Department Director, performs and coordinates all in-house lab testing and coordination.

• Performs testing and analysis
• Responsible for collecting, logging, and transferring all laboratory specimens, including cultures and pathology
• Coordinates API testing at direction of Technical Consultant
• Ensures accuracy and maintenance of competency and proficiency testing records and documentation
• Ensures accuracy and maintenance of documentation of QC and validation studies
• Identifies problems that may adversely affect testing or reporting of result
• Investigates reported or identified lab deficiencies or issues
• Oversees and manages lab supply and inventory tracking
• Works with ASH clinical departments, lab personnel, and contracted lab services to optimize specimen workflow.

Compensation: $18.00 - $35.00 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

• MLT required, MT (ASCP) preferred
• Associates in Applied Science with MLT school or a Bachelor's in CLS or a biological science with MLT or MT required.

Physical Requirements:

Position regularly requires use of hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms. Must be able to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Must be able to use computer keyboard and mouse and lab instrumentation. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures:

Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving mechanical parts. Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.

ASH IMMUNIZATIONS AND VACCINATIONS REQUIREMENTS – Aligns with CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP)for Healthcare Personnel

Hepatitis B- Lab evidence of immunity to Hepatitis B or three doses Hep B vaccine at appropriate intervals

Influenza- mandatory from November 1st through March 31st each year

Measles, Mumps, and Rubella - Lab evidence of immunity to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella or 2 doses of MMR Vaccination

Varicella (chickenpox) - Lab evidence of immunity to Varicella or 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine

Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) - documented proof of immunization

Tuberculosis Screening- All new-hires undergo a two-step TB skin test
