What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Justice Therapist- Lorain Detention Center position at Applewood Centers?
Applewood Centers is a private, nonprofit agency providing mental health services, social services and education to children, adolescents and families living in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. Dedicated to addressing a variety of behavioral, emotional and learning problems, we provide a continuum of care from outpatient counseling to residential treatment.
It has been estimated that nearly 70% of children currently involved in the Juvenile Justice System experience psychological issues or distress. Applewood Centers is currently seeking a qualified mental health professional to address this issue within the Lorain County Juvenile Detention Center. Applewood has been working within this setting since 2016.
Position Description: The Youth Justice Center Therapist is tasked with identifying, assessing, and starting the treatment process with young men and women who are being held at the Detention Center. The therapist will be responsible for clinically assessing and diagnosing individuals referred for services as well as conducting brief counseling interventions with clients. Therapists will also develop and make recommendations for continued services and treatment for clients identified once they are released. The Youth Justice Center Therapist will also assess clients who are experiencing acute mental health emergencies and work closely with Detention staff and the psychiatrist and/or medical provider to ensure the youth are provided appropriate care and interventions.
There are no productivity expectations or Medicaid billing in this role as well as a 8-4 or 9-5 schedule to best meet the needs of the facility.
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Social Work or Clinical Mental Health Counseling required.
- Valid Ohio LSW, LPC required. LISW or LPCC preferred.
