The Vegetation Management Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the vegetation control programs to ensure that vegetation surrounding power lines, roads, pipelines, and other infrastructure is managed to meet safety, environmental, and operational standards. This role involves supervising vegetation management teams, ensuring compliance with regulations, and maintaining the overall health and safety of managed areas.
Key Responsibilities :
- Program Oversight and Planning :
Develop and implement vegetation management strategies, including pruning, removal, and other control methods to ensure the safe clearance of vegetation around infrastructure.
Create and manage vegetation management schedules, ensuring that work is completed on time and within budget.Coordinate with local governments, agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and policies.Team Management :Supervise and lead a team of field crews, contractors, and subcontractors responsible for vegetation management activities.
Provide leadership and training to staff to ensure high levels of performance, safety, and efficiency.Monitor and evaluate employee performance, providing regular feedback and guidance.Safety and Compliance :Ensure that all vegetation management work is conducted in accordance with industry safety standards and regulations, including OSHA and environmental guidelines.
Conduct safety training for crews and perform regular safety audits to ensure a safe working environment.Monitor and enforce proper use of tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).Environmental and Regulatory Compliance :Ensure vegetation management practices align with environmental sustainability goals, protecting local ecosystems, and adhering to best practices for invasive species control and wildlife protection.
Maintain compliance with environmental laws and regulations, including working with regulatory agencies to ensure proper permits and reporting are in place.Monitor and manage the impact of vegetation management activities on surrounding natural habitats.Budget and Resource Management :Develop and manage budgets for vegetation management projects, ensuring cost-effective operations.
Oversee resource allocation, including manpower, equipment, and materials, to ensure projects are completed within budget and timelines.Track project progress and provide regular status reports to senior management.Equipment and Inventory Management :Ensure that all equipment and machinery used for vegetation management are properly maintained and in good working condition.
Manage the inventory of tools, materials, and safety equipment, ensuring that necessary supplies are available for operations.Ensure equipment operators are properly trained and follow safety protocols.Communication and Coordination :Act as the primary point of contact for vegetation management activities, coordinating with internal departments, contractors, and external stakeholders.
Communicate with landowners, residents, and local authorities regarding vegetation management plans and address any concerns or issues.Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on the status of vegetation management projects.Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, forestry, horticulture, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).At least 5 years of experience in vegetation management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.Strong knowledge of vegetation management techniques, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.Certification in pesticide application or vegetation management (if applicable to the industry) is preferred.Experience managing budgets, schedules, and resources for large-scale vegetation projects.Skills :
Strong leadership and team management abilities.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to coordinate with various stakeholders.Solid understanding of environmental and safety regulations.Ability to develop and implement effective vegetation management plans.Proficient in the use of vegetation management software and Microsoft Office Suite.Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.Working Conditions :
Full-time position with work conducted in outdoor environments, including in remote or rugged areas.Frequent travel to field locations, with some work requiring long hours or weekend availability.Physical labor may be required, including lifting, standing, and walking for extended periods.Exposure to various weather conditions, such as extreme heat, cold, or rain.Employment contingent upon satisfactory passing of applicable drug and background checks
