Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Activity Assistant to join our team and enrich the lives of our individuals through engaging and stimulating activities. The activity assistant is responsible for assisting an individual with a disability to lead a self-directed life. This role will assist with activities of daily living if needed and encourages attitudes and behaviors that enhance community inclusion. Additionally, an activity assistant acts as an advocate for an individual with a disability in communicating their needs, self-expression, and goals. This person will also create, develop, and explore activities that would enhance skills and target self interest preferences.
Scheduled Hours:
Typical schedule will be Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Position Duties:
- Participate in all training and orientation sessions as directed.
- Ensure all necessary paperwork is completed and turned in timely, neatly, and accurately.
- Treat all information concerning the individual and/or their family as confidential.
- Responsible to provide care to the individual as it pertains to the “Plan of Care.”
- Assist in the formulating of Service Plans/Plans of Care, etc. for each individual in his/her charge, documenting progress or significant problems.
- Advocate for services to enhance individual’s life.
- Assist with physical, educational, and/or social activities in a variety of settings.
- Follow all policies and procedures of the Arc of St. Charles.
- Review and comply with Consumer Handbook procedures.
- Adhere to and enforce all safety procedures.
- Perform other duties as deemed appropriate and as assigned by the Vocational Specialist.
- Create schedules
- Must be willing to be flexible (duties are changed daily)
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Education and Experience:
- High Diploma or GED (preferred)
- Minimum of one year experience in a related field.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent Interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Must be able to read and comprehend basic instructions and complete specialized forms.
- First Aid Certification – Class available upon hire.
- Skills in teaching woodshop, arts & crafts, painting, etc.
Physical Requirements:
- Physically able to perform the essential functions of the job as described in the position duties such as walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, sitting, reaching overhead, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to safely lift, transport, and transfer individuals including but not limited to lifting and transferring in and out of a vehicle, bed, or wheelchair as appropriate and needed to assist with the individual’s assisted daily living skills.
- Must be energetic and willing to engage with others
