Arctic Information Technology, Inc. is Hiring a Remote Senior Systems Engineer - Infrastructure

Overview

JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Systems Engineer – Infrastructure will utilize best practices and methodologies to design, deploy, upgrade, and support cloud infrastructure as well as on-premise solutions for our clients. This position will be expected to accomplish a full range of system engineering duties, which include planning, architecting, engineering, building, documentation, testing, quality assurance, and client support independently and with a team. This role will occasionally be responsible for Pre-Sales activities including the development of the final architecture, proposing hardware and software solutions, and estimating the total level-of-effort for infrastructure projects. 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Engineering and Project Delivery 

  • Performs network design, discovery, engineering, and deployment for new and existing clients to provide recommendations for a secure, reliable, and performant network.
  • Design Azure cloud architecture for small to medium-sized clients to include computing, storage, backup, security, and high availability. 
  • Serves as internal SME for best practices and recommendations for technologies such as Microsoft 365 (M365), Microsoft operating systems, backup and disaster recovery solutions, networking, virtualization, and storage. 
  • Applies deep expertise in on-premises and cloud infrastructure design, including On-Premises Active Directory/Azure Active Directory, group policy, Intune, Identity and Access Management, server configuration best practices, and related components. 
  • Works with a team to create a detailed and accurate scope document, design, or proposal (such as a Statement of Work deliverable) to present to clients as needed. 
  • Consult and advise on security best practices throughout the client's on-premises and cloud environment. 
  • Collaborates with Arctic IT project managers and clients to identify an agreeable project schedule. 
  • Ensures project documentation is complete, current, and recorded appropriately.
  • Follows the principles of good change management to minimize disruption.
  • Conducts quality assurance reviews of assigned projects. 
  • Effectively applies industry and firm best practices consistently. 
  • Provides input (to Sales and Account Management) for client IT roadmap, training, and/or other technology-related needs. 

Infrastructure Maintenance & Support 

  • Have a strong understanding of network layers, routing, switching, and effectively troubleshoot, recommend, and remediate network issues. 
  • Proactively identifies potential issues or opportunities for clients and AIT. 
  • Ensures network documentation is complete, current, and stored properly. 
  • Keeps up with leading-edge technologies from Microsoft. 
  • Serves as an escalation point for technical support for other team members. 

Collaboration & Communication 

  • Shares knowledge with team members and encourages others to do the same. 
  • Appropriately escalates issues to team members, AIT management, or external technical support. 
  • Promotes knowledge sharing and efficiency through accurate and complete ticket notes, project notes, etc.
  • Mentor other Systems Engineers or technical team members. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • 6 years of combined technical consulting, system administration, or network administration experience in an enterprise environment 
  • Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, or equivalent field-related experience 
  • Maintains current Microsoft certifications and other certifications as applicable (such as CCNA) 
  • Extensive knowledge of current Windows Server versions, current client operating systems, Active Directory and Azure AD and Exchange Solutions (on-premise and cloud) 
  • Strong understanding of PowerShell and its use in Microsoft Cloud environments 
  • Experience with Microsoft Cloud solutions including Azure and M365 deployments, maintenance, and architecture
  • Extensive knowledge of network, network protocols, routing, switching, and firewalls. Comprehensive understanding of anti-virus and backup solutions 
  • Prior experience in designing and implementing virtual environments (both VMWare ESXi and Hyper-V) with an eye toward scalability and performance 
  • Maintains current technical knowledge (must have all four of the noted required knowledge areas below, others are a plus):
  • Prior experience implementing various versions of Exchange, M365, and Teams 
  • Experience designing and implementing routing and switching infrastructure 
  • Experience working in cloud environments preferably Microsoft Azure to include the buildout of compute, storage, high-availability, and security services 
  • Experience working on structured IT projects including assessing requirements and scope, documenting design, identifying tasks and estimates, coordination with the project manager(s) to plan and execute, and project close-out activities 
  • Must have a valid state driver’s license, reliable personal transportation, and auto insurance 
  • Applicants are subject to government security investigations and must meet eligibility requirements related to the clearance process 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The majority of work for this role is performed in a home office and interacts with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities, and abilities. Telecommuters are expected to have sufficient home office space that appears neat, organized, and professional when on video meetings. Travel is required and varies around 25%.
