This position is responsible for the review, tracking, and analysis of legislation potentially affecting the Arkansas Department of Transportation. This position is responsible for performing specialized administrative tasks related to legal cases in Circuit Court and matters before the Arkansas Claims Commission and is responsible for working with Legal Division attorneys to investigate claims brought against the Department.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation is an "at will" employer.
Education and experience: Paralegal associate’s degree or two years of work experience as a legal assistant or legislative analyst. Experience working with technology (Excel, Teams, SharePoint, databases, etc.) supporting any of the following areas: business management, public administration, transportation planning, legal research, legislative analysis, policy analysis or insurance claims.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Demonstrated project management skills. Demonstrated ability to work with Microsoft Teams and SharePoint. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment. Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office suite including Word, Outlook and Excel. Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated commitment to teamwork.
Working conditions: Office environment with limited in-state travel.
Licenses, registrations and certifications: Valid driver’s license.
("Accredited" means the educational institution or program is accredited by an accrediting organization recognized either by the United States Department of Education or by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.)
A criminal background check will be required to determine suitability of employment, and failure to meet these standards may cause the applicant to be rejected or terminated from that position.

- Monitor, review, understand, and evaluate state legislation.
- Develop reports concerning claims and analyze and investigate claims brought against the Department.
- Obtain medical records and prepare medical exhibits and indexes
- Compile, draft, prepare, and edit legal documents, pleadings, legal memoranda, legislative tracking documents, spreadsheets, and other reports.
- Locate and interview witnesses, prepare subpoenas and coordinate witness attendance at trial.
