Under general supervision, this position assists the Natural Resources Section of the Environmental Division in collection of information for environmental documents including, but not limited to, collecting data and conducting field work associated with maintaining compliance of the Department’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permits and other environmental processes, procedures, and commitments.

The Department may require employees to perform functions beyond those contained in job descriptions. The Department may modify job descriptions based on Department needs. The Arkansas Department of Transportation is an "at will" employer.

  • Assist the Department in compliance with the MS4 permit.
  • Under direction of staff, assist in the preparation of, review, and updating of Stormwater Management Plan for the Department’s MS4 permit.
  • Conduct site visits to construction projects or maintenance facilities to review compliance with permits and regulations.
  • Under direction of staff, prepare reports based on findings and consult during the correction of any deficiencies as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of training on environmental regulations and practices to Department personnel.
  • Under direction of staff, perform field work and collect data for various environmental studies and processes.
  • Assist with analysis and data entry.

Minimum Requirements

Education and experience: The educational equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in an environmental, biological, natural science, natural resources, or related field OR the educational equivalent to a diploma from an accredited high school plus four years of experience working in a field related to work being performed.

Knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret scientific data, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to communicate technical, educational, and instructive information to a diverse audience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Familiarity with GPS equipment. Effective organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to interpret and apply Department policies and procedures.

Physical requirements: Ability to traverse rugged terrain including, but not limited to, steep hills, creeks and streams, swamps, brush and timber-covered property, fences, etc. and to withstand fieldwork in year-round weather conditions.

Working conditions: Statewide travel including overnight travel as necessary.

Licenses, registrations and certifications: Valid driver’s license.
