Richmond Outreach Team Lead

Asian Pacific Environmental Network is an environmental justice organization with deep roots in California’s Asian immigrant and refugee communities. Since 1993, we’ve built a membership base of Laotian refugees in Richmond and Chinese immigrants in Oakland, and more recently, Asian immigrants and refugees in the South Bay region of Los Angeles. Together, we’ve fought and won campaigns to make our communities healthier, just places where people can thrive.

POSITION SUMMARY:

APEN seeks to hire a team of outreach workers to participate in APEN’s civic engagement programs. This is a temporary non-exempt part-time position. This program’s goal is to increase the civic participation of low-income Asian immigrant communities in Richmond. The Outreach Team Lead will be leading a team of Outreach Workers to talk to voters and Richmond residents about corporate accountability, and their vision for a healthier Richmond.

This position is non-exempt, part-time, no more than 30 hours a week, lasting 6 weeks starting as early as March 17, 2025, with the exact schedule TBA. The hourly rate is $28, with no benefits. One meal and snacks will be provided each workday. Shifts available on weekdays, and some weekends.

PRIMARY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Talk to voters and Richmond residents about a Just Transition
• Support with the hiring of outreach workers.
• Supervise a team of 8 outreach workers during phonebanks, door-knocking, tabling activities.
• Complete daily reports based on results from the outreach team.
• Provide support and troubleshooting for technology used by the outreach team.
• Train outreach team on the topics, technology, and canvass skills.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Commitment to the mission and principles of APEN and environmental economic, racial, gender justice.
• Fluent in English, bilingual/biliterate in an Asian language preferred.
• Strong motivation and adaptability, including the ability to work under pressure and deadlines.
• Basic computer skills, ability to complete web forms.
• Able to work our full canvass shifts including additional weekend hours. Exact hours to be finalized.
• Have a valid Driver's license and access to a vehicle for outreach activities

• Experience working in Asian immigrant communities
• Able to give and receive constructive feedback
• Multilingual (Asian language) applicants preferred

ACCESSIBILITY AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position will require applicants to walk and canvass neighborhoods in Richmond. This position requires you to have access to a smartphone/device during the work shift (smart devices can be provided by APEN if needed, stipends will be provided for use of personal devices).

This position will be a hybrid (remote/in-person) position. Candidates will need to be able to work in-person at one of our offices located in Richmond. This position will follow APEN’s COVID safety policies and protocols regarding in-person work. Masks are required to be worn in APEN offices and indoor events, with the exception of eating and drinking. All employees also are required to be vaccinated as part of our safety policy or be subject to weekly testing.

APEN will continue to closely monitor local and state health officials guidance around COVID and any additional guidelines around safety for people to return to offices and gather in-person as needed.

This position may require work during irregular hours including on nights or weekends.

This position will not require carrying or moving heavy equipment, regularly ascending or descending a ladder, or standing or sitting for long periods of time. This position will not require working in hazardous or unusual conditions such as outdoors in inclement weather.
